Seems like a common fault. However it was fine when I parked it up Sunday night.

I had had the rear screen on for a while on the way back, parked it up fine, came to it tonight smashed with nothing dropped on it.

It was a cold night but it was dry so don't think any water dropped on the hot screen, any ideas guys?

Also, Auto Windscreens are going to call tomorrow about a repair, but for those of you that have had one go, is there any issues with the fitting or aftermarket screens i need to be aware of?

All of the break lines usually emanate from one point in the glass and you will probably find that the break point is where one of the heater tags is attached to the glass. This often becomes a stress point under extremes of temperature.
I have just checked and at least two of the glass suppliers have stock of the glass that you need, one of these being Pilkington in the Midlands. The other supplier lists theirs as an OE part. Either should be suitable with no concerns about quality.

We have done a few of these that have broken for no apparent reason whilst the vehicle was parked.

Yep that's exactly what's happened, all lines are from the n/s heater tag

Thanks for heads up on the suppliers that's brilliant!

Few bits of glass inside the car and I know interior will get covered but likely to make a mess!

Has anyone ever had a replacement screen smash or is this an OE issue?

I'll check to see if my car has had the heater upgrade too

I think there was a service bulletin related to the programming for the rear screen heating. Early cars heated too rapidly or too hot (or something like that). Might want to check with the dealer to make sure you don't suffer the same issue with your replacement.

Just had the new screen fitted today

£75 and I got a Pilkington screen. The screen had never been changed before and the 3 auto Windscreens guys which came out have done a very good job, very tidy given the amount of glass.

I haven't had chance to call the dealer yet but in the meantime I'll won't be leaving the rear screen on for long as I use it in winter

Only bonus is that the really hard to clean bit near the rear brake light is now spotless!!
