Thinking of going back to Japan?

Hi folks,
I used to have an r33 gtr in the 90's and early 2000's. Then when the boys came along I switched to a Nissan Pathfinder after a good deal from the Nissan garage in Glasgow .
About 5 years ago I was keen to get going again and bought a vxr8, I have had it now for 5 years and the mileage has gone from 17k to 34k, living in Oban I just don't get the chance to use 400bhp in the wet with the children on board.
Looking at skyline prices and the way they are rocketing, should I be getting a 4wd and using it more? Has anyone had a skyline then vxr8 or vice versa, if anyone has any thoughts would be glad to hear them, thanks.

Not had a VXR8, though I have had a R33 V-Spec years ago. They have ancient interiors and the performance is less impressive against modern machinery. Buy one to put in a dehumidified garage by all means. If it's serious driving then look at more modern kit. Golf Rs are amazing when tuned and very well turned out.
Really stuff like that is a personal preference. If you like them, you like them, if you dont, you dont.
But there is no doubt a Skyline of all eras can be a very potent machine, even if not perhaps in totally standard form. And the straight 6's do sound superb
Interesting seeing the new NSX on TGT the other day with James May. Impressive car, very expensive...so I decided to google to see how much the old original car was these days. Holy F*** ! they're commanding some huge prices.
I doubt the older Skylines will ever get there, but good ones still hold decent values. But as with lots of jap stuff of older ages now...rust can sneak in. Perhaps the biggest evil for most such performance cars these days are morons. Whether that's morons owning them, or morons working at them half destroying them.
It can be so hard to find a genuinely good car.

I seriously considered an R35 - mate was offering me a very good deal on his (with litchfield 620bhp conversion).
The main stumbling point for me was auto box - i'm just still not ready for that in my driving car.
Golf R are extremely capable - as already noted. Only you know if they are special enough - a VXR8 is a tough act for anything to follow - which is why I went completely off on a tangent and got the Evora.

How could anyone not miss the noise of the LS3? And whenever I need the space - be it shopping, purchase of larger items, carrying more than 2 people (no chance either of my boys will fit, but we did manage to fit my wife's friend and her 13yr old daughter into the back of the Evora to run them back to their hotel - they were nearly dead after 15mins). And who wouldn't miss doing big lazy drifts and sideways junction exits (although the tramping could get very annoying).
But as a driving tool the Evora is simply in a different class. Fantastic steering feedback and just amazing grip and agility. Very friendly at the limit, and although it's not an LS3 - it still makes a great noise when you get above 2.5krpm. It covers ground at a fairly ridiculous pace. I don't massively enjoy the amount of attention it draws though - way more than the VXR8.
Glad I made the change, but also very glad I kept the '8 as long as I did.

sorry not been on for a while,yes the car is worth more now than what I paid for it as to the running costs it gets less mpg than the vxr8and not long got the car back from abbey motorsport with a nice 7 page invoice
