If you are running a charger, I'd put one in. Look at Circle D in the states, speak to Chris Horn, and get a smaller diameter unit with the triple carbon lock up clutch. Smaller dia has a smaller moment of inertia and thus better throttle response. Dont bother with the aftermarket flex plates, they are crap quality, go with a stock GM unit. Be careful not to go with a high stall as you have a six speed and I assume this is not for drag racing. Just above stock should be fine.

(Ballooning is caused by hydraulic pressure stretching the converter and thrusting the crank forward taking out the bearings.)

When you've done this, get Pat Guerra (Pat G) to re-mote map the box for you, he has a science backed insight no-one else I have come across has.

There should not be any problems with a correctly fitted flex plate. If you had one ripped apart I would suspect something else was wrong.

I've done about 300 passes up the 1/4 mile with a stock GM flex plate and not one problem. And, the gearbox and torque converter were in and out at least three times. There are some critical measurements in fitting an after market stall and its easy to get it wrong.
