Hi All,

In my search for my next car one that is fairly high on the list is the 991 Turbo S for all the usual reasons. I have come across the car below as it stands out above most of the colours I have seen (white, black, grey) and I really like it. There doesnt seem to be too many interesting Turbo S's out there on the whole. I have owned a 996 (blue) and a 991 C2S (white) before but clearly both in fairly safe colours.

My questions are:

Is it OK to have a car of this value/prestige in bright yellow?

Does a 911 work in yellow? I dont think I have seen one in the flesh in yellow before and there certainly arent many for sale in this colour.

Is it just too shouty and does a car this capable/beautiful need to be shouty?

Is it OK for a middle aged bald fat guy to drive a bright yellow sports car every or does it shout mid-life crisis/sad tt??

Would I ever be able to sell it on, I would imagine the more 'different' the colour the more difficult it would be to sell on.

Am I overthinking this and in the end it doesnt really matter?

Is it just tooo damn yellow??

This is the car in question

In the end I will clearly do what I want and its my life/car etc etc, I just don’t think I am brave enougn or could pull it off but I just wanted to get some views!

Cheers!

1. Yes, of course it is. Certainly there are a quite a lot of yellow mid-engined cars around the same price point.
2. Yes, I think so
3. In my opinion yes, and in my opinion no
4. Yes if you're bigger than me! And possibly...
5. I would think you're narrowing the pool of potential buyers, but if yellow's your favourite colour you're going to love that car
6. A little bit. If you love the colour and the car, you may struggle to find a similar used one.
7. Not if you love yellow!

Good luck with your decision.

That car looks fantastic, and I'm sure there'd always be a buyer. Someone better informed than me will know whether the trade bids down on shouty colours though.

The acid test is Q4 in my view. Think that red Ferraris, orange Lambos etc, are fine if the owner's under 35. After that, I'd go for a more discreet colour.

I like it and think it looks great, would certainly put a smile on my face to see it being driven down the road. Would I buy it......Probably not. But, it's your choice.

I have a yellow Turbo S on my desktop for the last 2 years.

And I happily drive yellow 981 with agate/orange interior for the last 2 years and won't change it to any other color combo.

You need to be brave enought to stand out from a croud. Turbo S already quite a step, so why not to go a bit farther?

Reading this forum for the last 4-5 years I would say 85% will tell you NO-NO, and that you will never sell it later etc... As I said above - croud.

There are too many boring 'resale grey' cars in this world. Go for it and don't look back!

I think, whatever your age - go for it as a weekend car.

Yellow 991 turbo as a DD - that may look a bit mid lifey.....

But ultimately, with cretins like Grayling circling how much longer will we be able to enjoy cars like this?

It will stand out, it will potentially take longer to sell, it does look a bit mi-life-crisis (but so does any other 911 or sports car in general imo - who cares though, can't stop living only because you get older). If you like yellow it will brighten up your day, esp on a rainy day and everybody will see you coming - good when overtaking

I would go look at it in the metal - buy what you want and not worry too much about other people (their thoughts/their willingness to buy the car for you etc)

If you like it go for it! Just be aware that it will take longer to sell and/or you will probably pay for it a bit when/if you ever want to sell it. I would buy it bearing that in mind i.e. the price you pay now should reflect that. Definitely a marmite colour and I would probably not buy it as a DD.

Although come of think of it, there's a bloke who drives a yellow Boxster GTS to my local station car park. Looks great and not OTT.

I like it (especially with the matching calipers, stitching, dials and belts) but inevitably it will be perceived as a bit attention-seeking, which is not really me. Plus OH would not approve.

So I went boring black on my turbo, but go for it

I parked next to this kermit green .2 Turbo S and thought it looked great. Makes a nice change from the monochrome world we live in and if you like yellow then go for it.

I think the thing is I really like that colour but another thing that occurred to me is that it might be a bit 'girly'? My wife had a look and she said it was really cute and she could see herself in it..........

So maybe I like the idea of a bold colour but maybe yellow isn't quite right. I do like the orange and green though, somehow a bit more manly?

I think that yellow one is at least as manly as the orange and green cars! Mind you, the 997.1 RS orange with black wheels is one of my absolute favourite 911 colourschemes.

I agree that yellow looks particularly good on the 981 and 718 Boxsters.

If you love the colour of that Turbo, go for it. It will make you smile every time you're around the car. My only caveat would be if you're intending regularly to 'make progress' in it. A more discreet colour may help you be less 'visible'.

These flat bright colours were introduced by Porsche to add visibility while flat out down the autobahn. 50 Years later they still do.

Ive had few over the years and resale is no issue as there always buyers who have the same mind set as you.

Imagine it outside your house now as you glance out of the window... Happy? I'd say YES.

Go get it and post us all some pics on delivery.

If you want a yellow 911 buy one. bks to whatever anyone else thinks. Clearly give it some thought if resale value is your absolute priority though as I'd imagine it limits the market a little. The sort of people, who usually chuck around 'mid life crisis' (and not in jest) are usually those with very boring lives themselves.

It was in bristol a few months back, I think they said the previous owner was waiting on a Viper Green one so that will probably be available soon.
