Quote-Sorry for being stupid but I've only been into Aussie Motors for a short time and I'd like to become a bit more informed.
I see lots of discussions going on about "my VT this" or "my VY that" or "my VX blah"...what are you guys talking about-quote
It just relates to the model/age of Commodore. eg mine is a 1998 VT1, not sure about the Monaros but I believe you would have a VZ coupe, sure someone could verify.

Exactly as Mike_HSV suggests. Holden use two letters to represent the production run of it's vehicles. Each set (e.g. VZ) spans the entire production line (i.e. VZ Commodore, VZ Ute, VZ Coupe, VZ Crewman, VZ One Tonner, etc). Each production lasts typically 2-3years, i.e:
VT = 1997-2000
VX = 2000-2002
VY = 2002-2004
VZ = 2004-

Edited to say that no question is ever a stupid question. Never be afraid to ask. The blend of Holden/Automotive experts, newbies, and everyone in between is what makes this forum fantastic. I was in exactly the same position 12months ago and have learnt huge amounts within that time thanks to the people here (and Google).

Bizzarely it'll be the VE and it's due in Australia on the all new GM Zeta platform for the second or third quarter of 2006. It may form the basis of a large sedan in the Opel range in Europe, as well as the possibility of a revival of GM's RWD large cars in North America. There have been rumors that VE's underpinnings have already been previewed in the Opel Insignia show car of 2003. In addition, there have also been rumors that the looks of the VE Holden Commodore have already been previewed thanks to the Holden Torana concept car. Whether these rumors are true or not remains to be seen.
Recently published spy photos of the new VE commodore have shown it to be undergoing testing in the USA. It will have a new 6.0 litre L76 V8 which may be equipped with Displacement On Demand (DOD) and Varaible Valve Timing. There will also be a 6 speed automatic transmission for the V8 versions, and the V6s are also rumoured to have this transmission as optional. According to Motor magazine Australia and other publications, the Six-Speed Automatic transmission may be sourced from ZF Friedrichshafen AG, but details are not clear.
