A stab in the d here. Driving about over the last two days and every now and then I can here a single beep, vey very quiet, but cannot figure out where it is coming from, but it i definately insde the cabin of the car. Nothing lights up on the DIS and it cant be associated with mobile phone. Theresint anything else electronic in the car to make such a noise. But it is now getting to me as I cannot figure out what it is. Anyone heard anything similar?

Overspeed indicator on mine is hardly a beep, its more like a bloody foghorn, scares the life out of me , have now set it for "silly speed" to stop it going off too much!!!

My overspeed also lights up my dashboard like a baboons ass, red lights everywhere!! No it's not, it's the rev alert that does that, sorry.
Can't say I've seen my overspeed yet

Paul, is it a bleep you hear or a clicking sound, like a hollow 'tutting' sound? I get this just after I have started up & am pulling away. Can't say I've got a beep though and I don't know what the tutting is anyway

Perhaps it's your reverse warning beep? Might be having a bad connection day? That's not a very loud beep at the best of times.

No its not overspeed indicator, that is way too loud. This is very discreet and a single beep. Almsot as if an old digital watch has hit the hour and has "beeped", thats how subtle it is. It is definately in the car, I drove to Canary Wharfe and back today and noticed it several times. WIERD!!

Is there a pattern or frequency to the noise? Speed, acceleration, deceleration, manipulating the clutch, etc?

Closest thread I can find to what you've described is here

He never updated the thread with the outcome. Might be worth dropping him a mail in case he has the answer.

I guess things to consider is the noise itself. Does is sound like a quiet/muffled overspeed ding or more like the low tone you get when ejecting CD's? There's loads of tuneables in the car that may cause the noise if turned on. Anything changed recently aruond the time you first heard the sound? Try going through all the options to see if one of them to see if one has an audible tone set to ON and the volume LOW.

If you can reproduce it perhaps filling the car with people and going for a drive might help you locate the source. From there, you might be able to narrow it down.

I've figured out what the beeping was. I left my old mobile in the glove box and it the battery was running low. DOH!!!

Kev, are you sure that hollow knock isnt the AirCon kicking in when you set off? Just curious cos I wondered what the knock was when I used to set off in the car. Other than that I dont know!
