Results from RR Dyno day at Powerstation *VIDEO*
Discussion
Went to Powerstation this morning up in Tewkesbury for a dyno day with another car club to see what the Monaro is putting out. Final Figures were: 420bhp and 386lb/ft. I was pleased with the results and I was also the most powerful car there by 55hp Results were bang on the button for the mods, although the claimed result is 430bhp so I may take it to a hub dyno to get more accurate results.
The other good thing about this dyno was the sound, oh the monaro sounded so good, a real muscular sound down low and when she hit 4000rpm all hell broke loose and the sound was simply awesome as you'll hear from the video. On the first run (also viewable on the video) at the end, much to my suprise there was huge flash from the exhaust - very cool!

1st run: this was done in 5th gear but the monaro got to over 150mph and the dyno couldn't hack it so the run was aborted (watch for the flame if your resolution is good enough!)
2nd run: done in 4th, 420bhp and 386lb/ft torque, good result.
Just noticed, they left my bonnet down during the runs, this may have robbed me of a few ponies???

No such thing as a totally accurate RR regardless of hub, rollers whatever.
The results are what they are. Unless you have a before and after with your mods on the same rollers, same day, same conditions, the figures dont really mean that much.
But the fact they are close to what the car "should" be putting out, means everything is fine with the rollers, and the car.
I'm sure if you really wanted that extra 10bhp, the operator could manipulate the rollers to give you it, then you would be happy and not feel the need to go elsewhere.
Pub talk shouldnt be what rollers are about. But thats what most people use them for.
You got a good result, be pleased with it.
Out of curiosity, did any of the 2wd cars have traction issues on their rollers ?
^^ Whoa guys. Steady on. I AM very pleased with these results. Well at least if you read my post properly you would see that I only mention the hubs rollers as I have been told by well regarded members of this forum and the dyno operator at Powerstation that they DO tend to produce more accurate results. Only going by what I was told after the WRC day.
Hey, I'm no expert, I'm no car junkie, or car techie, but I'm no idiot either. Even I know that you cannot replicate the exact conditions etc and that even two identical rollers can give diffrent results. But so what! It was a fun day out. Hey I'm just an interested punter that is interested in seeing what my latest spend on the car has made. I happen to like "pub talk" numbers. They're fun, so what. And why should I not go to another roller day - they are great fun!
I have absolutely no idea whether the other cars were slipping. Why should I?

I was just curious if wheelspin may have been an issue on some cars with circa 400bhp.
I did read that you were happy, but your post also read as if you were searching for your "missing" 10bhp, as you didnt get 430bhp.
I was just saying that if that was your goal, then hunting round various rollers in order to find it is a meaningless task.
I understand RR days are fun, and as you say, pub talk is nice, and I do hope to get mine on a set of rollers if I ever get my finger out and build the new engine.
If its purely for fun, then of course go to every RR in the country. But searching for that 10bhp is not a reason to do it, as you could find some rollers may read more, or less.
But all of them can be manipulated to a degree.

Gents
I would disagree with the 3 points above:-
At WRC we have a purpose built dyno cell, which replaces all the air in just over 3 seconds. Essential in the delivery of stable repeatable numbers. We also have a weather station in our cell to allow us to input the conditions i.e BP/RH/ Air temp etc. This in turn allows the computer to apply proven compensation factors to account for changes between tests/days.
So to us it does'nt matter if your fist test was in winter or summer, because we have environmental stability the numbers will always be comparable.
A Dyno Dynamics machine in "Shootout Mode" cannot be manipulated, that is why it is the most respected name in rolling roads in Australia and this reputation is growing daily in USA & UK.
Traction is never an issue to us as we have knurled rollers and a traction control parallelogram bar. We run Monaros in 4th mainly, most other dynos need to be in 5th or 6th to stop wheelspin. We have run 4wd Evo's with 930 BHP [atf] 730 BHP [at the wheels] with no traction issues. This car made 650lb-ft of torque too.
For those who have run their supercharged v8's on our dyno, ask them if we had wheelspin ?
I would believe that an Australian dyno with an Australian v8 running on it in a proper cell will give a kw figure at the wheels that can easily be checked against multiple results on similarly modified cars from various Australian forums.
Just my twopennarth
Cheers
Allan
