Just finished watching a program on this channel called "Drives" where an American team took a Pontiac GTO and rebuilt it from shell up into a drift car to take part in D1 - last time I saw a Monaro going that far sideways I was heading for a date with a tree They made it into the top 16 which considering the little time they had to complete the job was a decent result. They'd tuned the engine to around 470bhp na. Also interested to see they ran the air intake straight to a hole cut in the inner wing into the front passenger side arch. Probably too much rain to get away with that in this country.

Ive seen some do this, but it weakens the body and is a no no in some places.
Take a look at the over the radiator cold air inductions. They are the item of choice in Oz for power production.

I did a mod like this where i removed the n/s fog light and ran a 4" pipe up behind the bumper, and in behind/under the headlight without cutting any metal work, works a treat..!!

hows that legally - with only the one foglight? I assume its okay if you never use the foglights?

The over the radiator intake is interesting especially as Dave52 has just imported one. Might get a chance to hear/see the difference if he gets it fitted sometime soon. Is it likely to be significantly better than a k&n filter with airbox mod on a mafless tune?

The OTR intakes are proven in OZ to make more power/better 1/4 times than the usual K&N system however it has been indicated that an excessive amount of rubbish is sucked in through the front (due to salt etc.) and unless you clean the filter out on an almost weekly basis, you could have a loss of power etc. Also I'm not sure what the situation regarding water is - in Oz they as you know have very little rain so it's much less of a problem but here... well we all know about here. It will be very interesting to see the results here in the UK if anyone does it.

I already had the "over the rad" thingy fitted, fog hole is meshed and pipe snakes in an "S" shape vertically before tracking back to the air box, so minimum water ingression.
The air box now has 2x 4" holes, one for rad mod & 1 for my mod..!!
never use fogs.

JUST DONE and no import.

You say cold air intakes of the Holden "over the rad" variety are *proven* to make more power? Have you seen one? Cold air indeed! You think sucking 38 degree ambient air from under the bonnet lip will make a significant difference over the 42 degree air thats behind the radiator when the car is moving? It aint going to be much. To airflow maybe but Im not convinced that the temperature of the air there is that much cooler than the current intake. Example: my washer fluid froze in December, the resevoir (on a Focus) is under the bonnet yet it stayed frozen despite a 1hr drive and the snow on the bonnet didnt melt one bit. Ive always been scepticial of that holden cold-air-intake shite. By all means if anyone has a dyno readout where one of these shows a marked improvement over simply opening up the current intake and whacking a high flow filter in it, Id like to see it.

If you do a search on www.ls1.com.au or www.ls1gto.com you'll find stacks of dyno graphs and track results that show the OTR intake making significant improvements. The fact is the stock airbox, while it is relatively good at encasing the filter from the hot air, has a tiny (comaparitvely) hole to get hot under bonnet heat in. The OTR intake is much better because of its positioning and flow capability.

Yep if you arnt sure then dont buy it

It can give 3* over ambient when moving, drops temp much quicker than stock and has less restriction and much less distance to cover.
I have a freind in NZ who went through about 4 different intakes till he got an otrcai, now he swears by them.

Ive read pages and pages on the gains over stock and know all the top Oz tuners use them for max power.

Does it work? "I think so", Im prepared to put my money on the table and experience first hand.

Look at the Harrop Hurricane manifold, thats basically otrcai too.
