As Paul says, no-one can be exactly sure but a rough guide would be 15-20%.

It's usually thought that a 6 speed can sap 50 brake if that helps

We have done many comparison runs on various types of dyno and the only loss we can prove over and over is that a HSV/Monaro has a loss of 37hp (on average) through the tyres.

There is no definative answer

Different tyres, differing tyre pressures, weight of vehicle on rollers, temperatures, types of actual rollers themselves, gear used, diff ratio, gear oil etc can all effect drivetrain losses..

Why bother guesstimating when the figure you are measuring is wheel hp/torque in the first place ?

Just use it. It removes the guessing element.

OK... So calculating the BHP loss through the trans. is a mystic art but...Can I assume that a dyno result will show exactly what it is at the wheels?

Yes but remember that tyre pressures, dyno setup etc. can all play a part in slightly altering the wheel figure so it's not 'exact' but it should give you an idea.

Yes and No.......

The figure you get from the dyno will be acurate (give or take a bit) but will it be a correct guage of your cars power, most probably not..........

The VERY big problem with dyno's and Monaro's is Air intake temp (as recorded by the cars PCM not some probe)

The dyno needs to maintain a constant Intake temp or the car will remove timing and on the Monaro this is very agresive.

If you are 1deg over the cars programed settings it removes 3deg of timing which is about 12hp and this just gets worse as the temps go up

That's very interesting Paul, our car was very hot when it dynoed 420, do you think it could have made more if it was done without them running it up and down and then doing an aborted run where the rollers exceeded the max speed? The bonnet was also down which would have probably exacerbated the problem...

It will only remove as much timing as the mapper has told it to.

Wheel HP figures make a lot more sense, and are more comparable, especially if making comparisons with other dynos around the world.

I agree with stevie turbo, rear wheel or hub figures are the only way to go for comparisons with other cars on different days, different weather etc.
