As a few may know I have spoken (aswel as other) about the condition of the alloy wheels fitted to the 2004 & 2005 CV8 Monaro.

I wrote to Vauxhall about this problem last month & I have a reply from them today (5/4/06)

This is the reply copied exactly from the letter I have been sent:

.........................................................................................

Dear Mr James

RE: Vauxhall Monaro, Registration Number HK05 ***.

Thank you for your letter dated 23 March 2006, which Mrs T Loveard has requested I respond to on her behalf.

We were both very sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the condition of your vehicle's alloys, and I can appreciate your reasons for writing.

All our vehicles are designed after extensive research into the requirements of our customers. This enables the production of a vehicle that meets the majority of our customers desired specifications, yet maintains competitive in cost.

I note your comments that the rear of the wheels are not painted. In fact the alloys are not painted at all, as the colour comprises of the mixed composition of metals used to make the alloy. However, the front has a lacquer coating. This is the way that the alloy is manufactured, as customer feedback suggested that the rear did not require a smooth, polished surface the same as the front.

Tha blackened area you have described and as we can see from the photograph you kindly supplied, is not corroded, it has discolouration due to brake dust and road dirt.

I have spoken to our Customer Care District Manger, Mr Geoff Hughes, who inspected your vehicle at Greens of Rainham, and he also confirmed this.

I acknowledge your question relating to the VXR Monaro, and feel I must clarify that this model has a number of differences from the VC8, therefore, the wheels are sourced from another supplier.

In light of the above, we do not feel it would be of any benefit to replace the wheels on your vehicle, as the condition of the alloys, over a period of time, would be the same.

Thank you again for writing, and allowing me the opportunity to comment.

Yours sincerely.

Jo Harris

I'm very disappointed but not surprised by this. To admit failure would be way too costly for Vauxhall. However, I'd love to see that customer feedback. Who on earth were they?

Hi Rob,

Thanks for posting it fully. Erm, I would have to disagree with the wheels being laquored to looks smooth - since my car came back with damaged wheels while being repaired at a dealer, I can say they are painted. On the chip and kerbing mark you can clearly see the cream coloured undercoat just like the body colour and then the silver paint.

I will be removing my wheels at the end of May ready for my car shown visit and fully intend to clean and clear coat the rear sections. It would be nice to find a silver wheel colour which was a perfect match though.

Suppose its nice of them to reply, will be interesting to see if I get a similar comment (along with complaint about other stuff).

Cheers
Steven

Hi peeps,

Had a phone call today from Vauxhall Customer Care - all I can say is, o'boy do they deligate, Vauxhall AA line no comment and dealer problems are also no comments. Anyway, thats a whole other issue !!

The wheels as we know are not faulty and they are just features of the car - they left me comments on my log to that affect.

At least they are singing from the same hymn sheet.

Cheers
Steven
