Before I dissapear from this forum for good! I dont think its particularly female friendly anymore, now that all my mates have dissapeared and it has become ruled by techy threads! Not a criticism as I realise that I am the exception, rather than the rule

So first of all where are all the people that were here when I first joined ... it was a fun forum then, that I used to like posting on! Now its too techy, and I'm off to hang out somewhere else on pistonheads

Secondly, I am just about to fawk out all my pocket money on an HSV, so bearing in mind I've seen a fair few of Will's trials and tribulations with his HSV. Can somebody talk to me about reliability of the breed. I am particularly interested in the unmodified variety! Particularly like to hear from anybody that either owns an HSV or has owned an HSV

Many thanks

BigNige

To be honest the whole place has gone a bit manky in the last few months.

It's now either "ooh I spotted a car today" posts or, well, not a lot else tbh...unless you count the regular new product launches.

I've tried to brighten things up a little, I started a thread on driving techniques...I think it got 2 responses

Anyway, to answer your question...err...dunno...they seem reliable enough although my farking exhaust is rattling again from somewhere that I can't see underneath.
Granted it's an aftermarket one...maybe I've hit something and not realised it.

I should go now, I'm grumpy.

(what a dwarfist remark )

Sorry you feel that way and I apologise for my Techy posts! In mitigation I just 'went with the flow' based on stuff that was here when I looked in.

I'm on my second HSV, first was a 1999 GTS which I left standard. In just over 40,000 miles I had zero problems I'm happy to report, not even a rattle. The current owner has done approximately 30K since also with no trouble except water getting into the boot which was caused by a damaged seal. To my certain knowledge only 'service parts' have been replaced, I would include a new pair of front discs at 50K-ish under that heading too.

Best of luck with the car, you will have one of the most understated performance cars, and one of the best kept secrets on the road

I am on my 5th HSV now and can honestly say that, being hand re-built and hand modified from the original production line model Holdens, they are an extremely reliable machine and very hard to break ( in the normal? driving sense). In 5 vehicles I have only ever had 1 issue (inside of rear tyre wear caused by rear camber problem common on VT and VXseries1 models) I would highly recomend HSV to anyone after 'a true driving experience' and that's not to mention the fun these cars are. I imported my car from OZ coz I didn't want to be without it and couldn't stand the thought of having to put up with < 2 litre starter motor and lawnmower engines in most european cars

I owned 2 HSV's, VT & VX, from Sep. 2000 - Dec. 2006. The VT suffered from a rusting anti squeal plate behind the front brake pads. That's it in 32k miles. VX snapped a belt, I hadn't got around to changing it even though I knew it was worn & a pulley bearing failed.
These cars are very low tech & use well tried & tested components, not that much to go wrong.
Don't think you'll regret owning one.

Thanks guys!

I wasnt having a gripe at anybody in particular! It'd be difficult for me to have a real gripe around here, since I'm in a minority of one! Arrrrgggghhhhh! Scarrrreeeyyyyy! A girl that posts on a car forum, where will it all end! I'm not being 'up my badge' either, since at the moment I dont own an HSV, although I have test-driven one. I obviously know a fair bit about the super-duper-charged variety and needed comment from those of you that have both owned and have driven HSV's

I feel I can confidently go ahead and get my HSV now ...! I felt it only fair to the breed, based on a conversation with a dealer (thank you Mr Dealer ... you know who you are), not to base my decisions on a super-modified HSV, when I have no intentions of modifying. YET!!! Although I do like the HSV much better when its lowered .... oh geeze, I'm not going down this route, it never ends!!

SJC .... if you dont go away, I wont go away. Havent seen you post for ages ... and you were one of the originals that welcomed me onto the forums on my 'Ace Cafe' thread!

Mrs HSV, While I understand where you are coming from as far as some of the bickering is concerned, I would like to say that I have found this forum very helpfull. There is always someone with a helpfull answer and most of the bickering goes on about things that are just over my head, because it always seems to be over some technical point or other - Keep the Faith (sounds like a song there)
I think that a lot of things start off great and then a bit of appathy sets in, but when I went on Jagsys' Way Aye cruise, I met some really nice people and had a great time, which was only down to this forum!

PS BigNige - keep the humour going, I enjoy it even though I might not add to the post

Ladies driving muscle cars = cool and sexy. I meant to say, but I guess I'm as computer illiterate as I am mechanically. I've only had my '04 LS1 two weeks so I can't comment on reliability. But I love its discretion, that XK8 yesterday evening must still be wondering what happened. I have found this site very welcoming over the last fortnight and with my brothers help (aircraft engineer amongst other things)with translating helpful as well. My wife who fell in love with the car will contribute as soon as we get online at home.
