GM have announced that production of the new Camaro will commence late 2008, with sales commencing 2009.No mention yet of rhd, but the platform will be used by Holden.

The platform is already in use by Holden for the latest Commodore. And as much as I love the Monaro, the new Camaro rocks even more!

Have to admit, I love this Camaro although I doubt it will ever make over to these shores. If it does, then I'll be selling the wife and children to raise funds.

However, I reckon the new political correctness towards our 'gas guzzlers' etc will only be worse by 2009 and anything over 1300cc will be considered to be the spawn of satan and taxed out of existence.

In fact, I reckon poeple will be afraid to buy our Monaro's second hand by then. It'll be a bit like drink-driving is classed as anti-social now, anything big and powerful will be classed as un-pc.

What a sad world it's turning into. Can't have fun anymore..

I think the Monaro is already pretty anti-social - it's big, noisy (not enough), drinks like it's got a problem and throws insults at old ladies and young children (I've witnessed it!)... but that Camaro, DAMN... I want one. :P

It looks fantastic.... It will be a tough decision between that, a new Monaro or a new Esprit.

On the planet busting issue... if the WHOLE of the UK completely stopped driving ALL cars, vans, bikes, lorries then the environmental gain made would be wiped out by Chinas industrial growth in... 54 days.

When you fill up your car, the hydrocarbons pushed out of your tank (from the fuel vapour) are 4 times as harmful as burning the tank of fuel you are putting in.

Airplanes are by far the lost damaging form of transport too the environment. The days after 9/11, GLOBAL weather patterns changed, the WHOLE planet cooled down by 2 degrees, the skies were clearer etc...

Over 50% of the environmental damage done during a cars life is in the production…

...and I could go on... and on...

I'd drive a Chevrolet Matiz every day if it meant I could have a new Camaro in the garage for the weekend. Well, actually, maybe not Matiz. But you get me drift.

Cars such as the Camaro and Monaro may become weekend toys in an "environmentally friendly" future. Just means we'll appreciate them even more.

However, if ever you feel the greenies are taking over.......take a trip to one of Goodwood's events, whether that be the Festival of Speed, the Revival meeting or even one of the Breakfast Clubs.....we Petrolheads can still put on a great show and stand up for ourselves when required. You are not alone, and it's great to know there are thousands more like us fuelled by the passion of cars

Couldn't agree more. Just hope some of the lovely details make it into production. I'll bet those lovely slim mirrors are the first for the chop.

True, but I bet they're next to useless. Especially as EVERYTHING is going to be behind you in this car

I don't think I could wait that long though, going to be 2009 before you could get hold of one.

Who knows what else will come out in 3 years?

Yep, Challenger due in 2008. Allegedly the next generation Mustang should be out around then too.

That said, as long as it looks just as good as the concept, it'd have to be the Camaro for me

Who know, there may even be a new Monaro by then!
