What car did they have to use to show the PC's speed who did 159mph? The CV8 Monaro of course! Brilliant and quite fast in red. And he was in 5th gear with plenty to spare!

Yeah, pretty cool that.

Odd though, it was a normal 05 CV8 rather than a VXR (wheels and rear gave it away plus piano black interior). I would have thought they would have borrowed a VXR rather than a CV8.

Cheers
Steven

Video taped earlier. Just looked at it, someone wasn't wearing the seatbelt at 145mph. Red dash symbol was lit.
Bearing in mind the piece was about road safety yikes

It was certainly very impressive when it shot past the camera. Nice little wheel spin at the start too. Bet the shamed pc was wishing he'd been testing a Monaro instead of a Vectra now.

Looks like Stephen's correct about the car though, just the 'little' engined 05 CV8 but it certainly showed just how good these cars are and was a nice little bit of PR for the Monaro range.

I seem to remember reading an article not long after the incident came to light, that sales of the Vectra 3.2 V6 went up slightly as a result of it's un-official test figures.

The correspondants comments "...at this speed I can hardly focus on the road ahead", made whilst looking behind him at a close-up camera, then trying to look ahead at that speed, tells me he hasn't done this sort of thing often. So how then is he 'authourised' to comment?

Doesn't matter.

It's a BBC report and that's all the public cares about.

Having done just shy of 188mph on a runway over the standing mile, I had no problems focussing on the road ahead. I certainly wouldnt attempt it on a public road though !!

The reporter must have bad eyesight if he couldnt see properly.

Either way, even if you can see clearly, actualy being able to maintain control in an emergency situation, would be extremely difficult.

Well boys & girls. We are on the verge of a legal precedence being set.

Should you ever be unfortunate enough to be stopped for speeding & come to court.

Tell the district judge that you've suffered enough from a lengthy case......and you'll be on your way, scott free - to Boot's for some antibiotics.

This is nothing new. It has been the case for about 200 years - please do not try and insinuate that the Judge went easy on this police officer, just because he was a Police Officer.

if I swap the word "case" for "dose" - is that any clearer?

If not.

Let's stop.
