'Supercars they may not be but I long for the BTCC to return to days of RWD big BHP monsters... Long live the RS500!!'

useless bit of info - the rs500 used to run without a diff! - solid rear - bit more than just a drift diy welded diff i imagine ;-)

bit of a handful i recon :-)

Indeedy - They were a bit, erm, homebrew compared with modern stuff.

They also used to run no suspension as the regs at the time dictated that stock shocks and springs had to be used. Obviously track suspension wasn't a goer for a road car, so to get round the issue of soggy old road suspension on a track car they simply fitted solid bump stops which limited suspension movement to almost nothing.

It's true you do get used to power...

My Scooby was well fast when I first got her - standard UK spec but I soon got used to it.
I'm up to 280bhp now and while I'm used to it for attacking B-Roads I really don't want more.
I already miss some of the corners I used to be able to take foot flat on the floor with 30bhp less...

As for the wife's 380bhp Supra, that's immensley silly.
I do love it when she treats me to a drive (go on love, have another drink I'll drive you home) but that's WAAAAY too fast for our roads.
So 500bhp must be RIDICULOUS!

But yes, I'm sure I'd love it!

Its true, you do get used to power, my 355 feels slow and even my 450bhp Supra is starting to lose the WOW factor, 500 brake in a RWD chassis for under £36k sounds fantastic to me! Once it feels slow, start modifying it! Lovely.

500ps - 454bhp (1.1ps: 1bhp).

Seems good for the money

Is that right? Didn't know that. 454bhp doesn't sound much for a 6 litre supercharged V8 does it! Try harder Vauxhall!!

What setup are they using ?? Is it the US Maggie, or the Aussie Harrop ?

Be interesting to see what sort of Warranty is on it, although 500 is stil quite tame

Sounds like an impressive car for the money.

Re-sale value will be interesting in a few years.

I believe they are using the harrop units and 500bhp is not tame at all considering it comes with a FULL vauxhall warantee!

True Dan.

An intercooler, maybe some more fuel system changes etc and 'the pulley of death'evil should suite even the most power crazed for a street car...

don't think VX woudl warranty that though!!

Harrop is only running at 5psi and also has standad fit exhaust and map. Bit of tweaking, you easily get 600... add in Air/Water intercooler, smaller pully wheel on the blower and you get get a lot more... then you could start meddling with engine internals

Bah :-)

I am not a discenting Kiwi I haved lived in both the UK and NZ. It's just that having lived in NZ and grown up with HSV, Senators, XR6, XR8 blah blah blah, far too many models to count and as common as chips, it's easier to get excited about a postbox. They have all had a common look for the last 10 years at least with styling overhauls, well if you could call it that.

When I lived in the UK, it was nice to see the British cars, TVR's Astons, Lotus, which I bought an Elise back with me to NZ :-)

I can't understand how people get excited over these poor imitations of US muscle cars. I mean if you want one get a real one. Grab a Mustang, a friend of mine has a 73 fastback and it's a lovely monster. Hell it's intimidating!

IMO I just think these are very poor cousins. Anyway I am a kiwi and these machines are from Oz, I have to call them crap, it's my conditioning. I mean what do people expect, next am I to praise the Aussie cricket or rugby team!

My IT director is a Kiwi and HE likes the Monaro just fine (doubt he'll admit that here though). It's not a poor cousin to anything - in fact, the next Camaro will be based ON the same platform as current Holdens. That'd make it the other way round!

But I know.. you can't agree. It's in your genes.

Quote from the web: The regular Monaro VXR produces 397bhp from its six-litre V8 engine, and you might have thought that would be enough to be getting on with. In the VXR 500, though, the same unit is supercharged to produce 493bhp (the "500" in its name refers to the power output in PS), while the maximum torque figure shoots up to 499lb/ft.

Easy, Marcos TSO. There you go.

TSO GTC IS £50,000 (+options) and has 420hp............maybe www.elfin.com.au/flash/index.aspx would suit you...........sir

462 BHP and 460 ft/lb with the performance pack, and you can still have a chat with Mark at Linden if you fancy a supercharger.....

But I have to say, Well done Vauxhall, glad to see you have the balls to do it, keep it up, now how about a replacement for the VX220?

I'm very tempted by a VXR500 but at the same time I'm still really enjoying my tuned 04 CV8. After a long sabatical i've recently started a job in auto electronics / design and i'm loving it. A VXR could well be on the cards if things stay good. A Monaro mechanic as a second / part time job sounds ideal - but would I have any time left to do anything else
