but would they clear? The reason I ask is the ones I have fitted on my car just fit, just - they clear the linkage but are a tad close to the track rod. On the left hand side there is a huge gap between the rod and the tubes. Or is that rght for the rhd headers? They are closer to the rod due to the shape they have to take to pass the linkage?

I would doubt it.

Buy from Oz and ship via sea IMO.
Engines and parts from the US for sure, thats where they all come from anyway.
A 416 stroker is only about $200 more than the 402 these days. So silly not to do that if thats what floats your boat.

I was happy with my heads and cam power. If supercharging is not your thing its a consideration. Easy 150bhp with the right setup there.
Same trap speed as Mysty's VXR8 Supercharged WPP down the strip but on thinner 235 tyres smile

Yes.
Though Id probably talk to a differnt builder like Erik Koenig at HPE (Horsepower Engineering) in texas or the dudes at LME http://www.latemodelengines.com/
SLP IMO is a brand and cookie cuts engines. The others will build to your requirements (like emissions etc). Plus they have a very good rep in racing circles etc. Whereas SLP is bulk sales for street swaps really IMO anyway smile

Quite a few places offer short blocks ready to buy, that would do. Or you can do as Richard suggests, and get one custom built, albeit for more money.

Erik will do a 454 for you if you want. I always wanted a 454... but I probably dont want to pay for the fuel!

I think ideally you have to have a target in mind, how much HP is enough?..... are you going to stip it, track it or just drive it around? Alot of guys seem to jump on the cubic inch band-wagon fairly quickly. Big cubes means big torque, munroes struggle with holding 500bhp and decent torque on the road as it is. The combination will work better with good power through the rev-range.

Big torque is all well and fine if it's going to be a regular strip mauler on slicks, then you open another can of worms. To reduce expense I'd retain the standard crank, throw in some decent rods (lunati pro-mods are my personal choice) & pistons, JE are as good as any and decent aftermarket heads and cam combo. Tune it right and it will be a different car all-together and do all you want and more, a good all-round performer.

And I wouldn't worry about the integrity of the standard crank. Unless you want to rev it into the stratosphere these will hold good HP. I'm still using the standard unit and it's holding 800hp at 12psi.

My 2c is...you don't need to spend mega-bucks on these engines to make big HP, if you have too much money lying around go ahead, your much better off getting your top end sorted.

Thats exactly why Im just doing heads and cam again. Dont see the point of pistons either. They are quite a large additional cost for no reason IMO. NA stock pistons are ok just dont expect them to play ball if your tune sucks and you lean it out or knock the hell out of it. With a good tune there is no point changing them as evidenced by all the superchared engines on stock pistons with a lot more load than NA will place on them.
