Just remember that Australia invented the ute.
Holdens haven't got poor build quality. If you want to see poor build quality just goto America and look at the American built cars. Holdens arent unreliable either especially compared to your Cerbera. If they had poor build quality they wouldn't be Australias best selling car.
"what is the point of a v8 ute" Australia has had a long history of having a v8 under the bonnet, mostly an aussie designed and built 308ci v8, so it makes perfect sence to put one into a ute. Many aussie blokes use thier utes for work and for weekend transport, so the Maloo is a multi role vehicle. I guess that they think that it is better to have a fancy ute rather that having a ute as well as a car.
Australia is a very big country, so people have to drive alot further than they do in the uk and they like to tow caravans and trailers, also petrol is far cheaper in australia.
" I'd rather have a Ford f100 instead". Holdens are designed for Australias road conditions. In Australia only 35 per cent of the roads are sealed, Holdens have beefed up suspension and a stronger body to cope with the dirt roads. American suvs etc just can't cope over here , they just fall apart.
Nickpage, you said the maloo is $100 000 au well it is $50 000 and the Monaro is $60 000 so that would be:20 000 pounds for the Maloo and 25 000 pounds for the Manaro. Yes, your getting ripped off over there.
Jeremy Clarkson seems to think that the Monaro is a great car, he thinks its better than a 75 000 pound jag and the Chysler 300c. If the Monaros a good car then the Maloo should be as well.
And by the way a Monaro and Maloo can do 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, a Cerbera takes 8.8 seconds.

Pelo, the GTS in the U.K. is the equivalent of the R8 (or might be the clubsport) and the GTS-R is the same as the GTS in Aus, except for minor details like fog lights etc. (See www.hsvuk.com) Of the 100 GTS-Rs built for Europe, 12 came to the U.K, all in black.
Mine is red.
