Had my wheels done in black
Discussion
problem with powdercoated wheels is when they invevitably get scratched the water gets beneath the plastic coat and starts to lift it off in big bubbles/chunks - I'd stick to a good paint job everytime. Apart from anything else the powdercoated wheels I've seen have been quite varied in quality of finish. Some have almost a "Hammerite" type surface finish. Get a decent paint job with a few coats of clearcoat to protect it, then polish and wax regularly to keep the worst of the crap off the surface.
Interesting stuff this, just had a quote from these guys of just under £300 for powder coat www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/ (Going for Charcoal grey, but my car is blue!). They can also do a one day turnaround at extra cost..
Not entirely convinced by the powder though, had some bike wheels done a while back, and although they made a really nice job, they chipped up pretty badly, and went dull as mentioned earlier, it's certainly not a very hardy finish. Problem is, spraying onto alloy isn't that successful either normally, more research needed....

It all depends on who your powder-coater is... I know, stating the obvious.
I had a '95 Prelude for 11 years, (loved that V-Tec) and the factory alloys had bubbled up really badly after a few years.
Found a one man business in Possilpark (quality area, eh Bob?!) Glasgow and his powder-coating lasted longer than the original Honda finish!

I've used the meguires before, the clay bar was a treat too! Out of interest when getting rid of swirl marks what do you do? Also if you dont mind me asking whats the best way to wash/polish to avoid them during application? Cheers
When i first got the car it had a few swirls and i got my mate the valleter to get rid of them with a machine polisher, im not that up on all this tbh but i have been having a look around on http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/ and find it very interesting what some of these guys can do with bad paintwork, have a look in "The studio" there is a good write up on S600 VXR's car.http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.p...

Now black plates I've ALWAYS wanted, but I don't think I'd stand a chance of having them on for more than 5 mins without getting pulled!
You'll have to let us know if the police take any interest!
I dont think ill have a problem, seems the norm on black range rover sports around here, they all have them. You'll have to let us know if the police take any interest!
