nice one, I'm after powder coating for mine simply for the hardness. Had too many issues on previous alloys with paint

have to say black wheels really suit thes black cars

Ive had wheels powder coated black by another place in high wycombe called spray blast engineering and for some reason they lost there shine very quickly and went a dull almost matt black so i thought id try spraying this timewink

Nice to see a pic of these on a black Monaro. I had just decided to go anthracite on mine next week, because I'd always thought black wheels on a black car make the tyres look very grey. Yours look ok though, so I'm not sure now lol. Hmmm...

I think antracite is the colour I fancied, or black bronze/gold

problem with powdercoated wheels is when they invevitably get scratched the water gets beneath the plastic coat and starts to lift it off in big bubbles/chunks - I'd stick to a good paint job everytime. Apart from anything else the powdercoated wheels I've seen have been quite varied in quality of finish. Some have almost a "Hammerite" type surface finish. Get a decent paint job with a few coats of clearcoat to protect it, then polish and wax regularly to keep the worst of the crap off the surface.

Interesting stuff this, just had a quote from these guys of just under £300 for powder coat www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/ (Going for Charcoal grey, but my car is blue!). They can also do a one day turnaround at extra cost..

Not entirely convinced by the powder though, had some bike wheels done a while back, and although they made a really nice job, they chipped up pretty badly, and went dull as mentioned earlier, it's certainly not a very hardy finish. Problem is, spraying onto alloy isn't that successful either normally, more research needed....

It all depends on who your powder-coater is... I know, stating the obvious.
I had a '95 Prelude for 11 years, (loved that V-Tec) and the factory alloys had bubbled up really badly after a few years.
Found a one man business in Possilpark (quality area, eh Bob?!) Glasgow and his powder-coating lasted longer than the original Honda finish!

you seriously suggesting taking a Monaro into Possilpark?? And leaving it there while the wheels get done!!!! Lol no chance not even with 2 armed guards and a couple of rottweilers to protect it.

I've used the meguires before, the clay bar was a treat too! Out of interest when getting rid of swirl marks what do you do? Also if you dont mind me asking whats the best way to wash/polish to avoid them during application? Cheers

Now black plates I've ALWAYS wanted, but I don't think I'd stand a chance of having them on for more than 5 mins without getting pulled!

You'll have to let us know if the police take any interest!

When i first got the car it had a few swirls and i got my mate the valleter to get rid of them with a machine polisher, im not that up on all this tbh but i have been having a look around on http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/ and find it very interesting what some of these guys can do with bad paintwork, have a look in "The studio" there is a good write up on S600 VXR's car.

I got pulled last week for having a small plate on my bike. As it didn't comply with the law I was told they could confiscate it for evidence and force me to re-register it at a cost of about £1k. I think you'll find the same thing applies to you.
