thank goodness you all walked away from that with only minor injuries. should serve as a warning to us all that tyres although still legal may not be performing as well as they would with a bit more tread still on them. know there are a few owners on here like to change more often than the law would require just for the added safety - think after seeing these photos and the current weather conditions I may join them!

Had the police on the phone today, they where giving me the details of the lorry driver etc.

Also informed me as far as their report is concerned it was an accident, one of them unfortunate incidents with a rear wheel drive car and a stupid amount of standing water.

So lets see how good A-Plan are/their underwriters.

I realise this thread is a couple of weeks old now, but it occured to me the other day that there was something missing from the photos of Hex's shunt.
What happened to the air bag deployment? Was the shunt not 'severe' enough...? Does the car have to hit something a bit more solid to create sufficient 'g' levels to trigger the bags? If you look at all of his pictures of the car on his Facebook web site there hasn't been a single air bag set off.....

it's a complicated algorithm but in summary direction of travel and impact severity are the main factors.
An airbag should not deploy on a rear or side hit (curtain aigbags if fitted can go off on side impacts though - monaro hasn't got them).

the problem with airbags is that they are a one hit wonder - so the computer has to make a call that the impact is worth the deployment. The classic case is a minor front offside hit that causes a spin resulting in a collision with a tree. Obviously you would want to save the airbags for the tree impact as this is going to be considerably worse. Hence the system tries to make a judgement and if a collision is such that an aigbag won't make a huge difference (rear ended or rollover) then it should not deploy them.

Wow just found this thread. So glad you all 'walked away' from this. I had a major rear-end step out in my V8 Ford Anglia about 20 years ago. The car oversteered at the rear going around a fast sweeping bend, I then over corrected it and it spun round the opposte way causing the car to clip the kerb then roll over 40ft of 8ft high metal spiked fencing which pierced the roof, and then it flipped twice end to end eek Very scary when it happened but I managed to pull my girlfriend out through her passenger window.. by her hair(!) because I thought the car would explode in a James Bond fashion - but of course it didn't!

Really glad you are ok, those ribs will take a bit of time and you will find your mates trying to make you laugh (as they did when I broke mine) as they know it hurts when you do laugh

Yeah none of the airbags deployed.

As has been said it wasn't such bad inpact, we just got a tad unlucky and rolled.
I'm glad the drivers airbag never deployed tho, as it could well of done my chest more damage than good.

Still waiting for anything from the insurance rolleyes, will be giving them a ring later on today/tommorow as need to sort out some insurance on a stop gap car till they insult me for the 'ro.
