Can any Monaro owners give me an idea of what mpg they are getting? I want to know if running one is completely beyond the realms of my common sense? I do a lot of miles and currently run a 3.2 Vectra getting 27mpg so I am aware the Monaro would be quite a drop from this.
Cheers

national speed limit cruising on long distance motorway journeys you might actually get 1-2mpg more out the Monaro. Stop/start and town driving 18-22mpg. Thrashing the living daylights out it round a track - low single figures. Few on here have had Astra VXR's before for example and found they get better mpg out the Monaro. In 6th gear on the motorway I can cruise at 70mph at around 1700rpm all day long - big lazy low revving lump until you want to get up and go, then its an entirely different animal.

5000 miles and averaged 23mpg overall I seem to remember. This includes ring trips and general running around. As already stated, steady driving will see high 20's no problem untill you get the urge to open it up a little. PS - mine S/C BTW.

They can be very good for a big fast powerful V8. Certainly a similar ball park to running an ST Focus or Impreza STI.

My Camaro (same Ls1 engine, but a lighter car) with an auto tends to do ~22-24mpg. On a run it'll do over 26mpg and with a manual better.

Only time the mpg has been really poor was when we had snow a month or so back. I only needed to do 2.5-3 miles to the train station, but having the car idling while clearing the snow off it meant more like 15-18mpg.

There's no denying it'll use more fuel than the V6 you are used too, but it won't be a million miles off it and the subtle performance gain and sound track (after market) exhaust certainly make up for it biggrin

my mates got a black camaro z28, auto.....on a run he gets slightly more mpg than me due to his tourque convertor locking out so less gas needed.
its quicker aswell, prob due to it being lighter

SSHHHHH!

Its a dirty thing to say a Camaro is quick on PH - you'll get flamed for it wink

All joking aside, if they have the 2.73:1 final drive ratio, then yes their mph per 1000rpm is around 40mph. And the verter will happily lock up so yu can cruise at anywhere from 50-80mph and keep the engine revs to below 2000rpm.

I think the Camaro has a lower CO too and combined with weighing 150-200kg less probably helps.

The Manaro is still one very impressive motor though. smile

lol
yeah the camaro has bags of character, but that axle makes it handle like a turnip!
and the build quality is not a touch on the monaro, i think his interior is made from melted down action men....good car all the same!

In the heady early days of ownership I averaged 13.8mpg. Two years on and I now average 16-18mpg, though a long run will see me just nudge the low 20's.

I can imagine 1000bhp eats gas nicely. I managed 23mpg average mixed over 5000 miles.
Though recently Ive been less emissions friendly and averaging 20mpg mixed.

On a gentle long run to Monkfish I managed to squeez out 30.4 mpg, it was hard work though. On the way home 27 mpg no problem, thats 70-85 mph.
If you plan your driving as in the book Road craft you will save a lot of gas for when you want to drive like Mad Max...........

I think on average the MPG goes up as the engines improve ie
LS1's - 18-24 mpg is a good ball park - never going to hit 30mpg without driving like miss daisy.
LS2's - 22-28 mpg - 30mpg is "easily possible"
LS3's - a bit more....
imho

Short journey to work adhering to speed limits (naughty boy) 14.5mpg, long journey mostly M3/4/27, there 27.8, return 30.8 (kept below 3000 rpm for the most part).

I've had a TVR and Impreza turbo which both averaged 21-22mpg per tank in mixed driving and I'd say the monaro was probably the same.
