It was the texas guy, texas jack or something like that who had a gto which launched really well and I mean well. He put his launch times down to a damper rod fitted sideways between the engine and the suspension strut, which he called a stiffie. smile

It stopped energy being wasted rotating the engine by a few degrees. The stiffie resisted the engine's movement so all the energy went to the propshaft and driveline instead.

Some people pay a fortune on tubbing etc but you need the energy to get to the tyres in the first place. So, maybe you need a stiffie smile
i think his name was sarge

It was Sarge GTO Mate. I don't rate the stiffy really and I think he was on here to promote them, nice bloke that he is. If you are having problems with engine movement and are serious about launches, you will fit poly engine and gearbox mounts, which will help with axle tramp as well. In any case most of those cars over there will be auto's, which are wound up on the stall at the line anyway.

Here's mine:

How much did that set you back if you don't mind me asking? I've seen them in the states for $350, engine and box polymounts not including tax and delivery

Was his name Sarge smile

He worked at a penal correction facility iirc. As for the stiffies, I did a search on line under 'engine torque damper review'.

They seem to get positive reviews.

mine is actually a modified motorcycle steering damper bolted to the right hand side of the bulkhead and the back of the block. Unlike conventional stiffies mine is adjustable

I don't think they are and you have to get them from the U.S.

Stiffies are adjustable, you stroke them to change length.

excuse my ignorance but if you prevent the engine from turning in its natural axis surely this is not good in the long run?

Mike - possibly not but from a purely drag racing POV it is. Longer term there may be issues however thats why they are adjustable.

TBH though it would be better to simply dump some of the weight to help with initial acceleration and to also pre-load the drive train - eg: handbrake held open but on and the clutch dragging. Anyone who does not preload the drive train is asking for trouble as shock loadings can be very high and destructive.

Now back on track... dyno day... smile

Wormus since buying the vxr8 I think you will find they stopped being Chavstras and became the classy choice.

Drop your PSI next time, maxing out 90lb what were you thinking?

Richard are you OK to get there mate? Leaving watford around 9am and have two "Cossie" boys tagging along to see what real cars are like wink They may also come in useful if I need to pick up some of my engine bits LOL.
