Damn well there had to be a first time for a fault.....

Today I pressed my boot release button (CV8 Monaro) and the boot didn't open.

There's a mechanical noise like something is trying to happen but the boot is clamped shut.
There's no keyhole. Or anything else.
I tried the boot release switch in the glovebox. Not opening.
Again mechanical whirring but boot remains locked.

Any idea's?
How is anyone even gonna get into it?

Thanks in advance.....

Once you have it open partially remove boot lining, gentle use of a claw hammer a good way of removing those plastic studs. Locate the loose wire with plastic on the end it will be near the lock mechanism and simply push it back into the hole, no mechanical fixing works purely on friction which probably explains why it pulled out in the first place.

Yep been there. If you can still hear a motor, it's probably the cable between the actuator and release mechanism.

There's 2 cables go to the release lever on the lock, one off the actuator, the other off the emergency release. The main is held in place by a dob of metal on the end of the cable. The emergency stays in place because of thicker metal that makes it a dog leg shape. It's probably the dob of metal that's broken off.

I fixed the main by crimping an electrical connector to the end of the broken main cable then running a cable tie through the lock lever and adjusting the size of the loop until it worked. I also cable tied the emergency on aswell as its not that secure.

I didn't remove the whole lid trim - just loosened it a little around the lock to get to everything.

Sorry mate. Can't think of a way past that short of - well nothing very nice.

Might be time for a locksmith. Hope that doesn't involve damage.

Well just resurrecting this thread to let everyone know that the problem has been figured out.

Seems the small metal double cable attachment loop thingy in the lock has snapped so the cable that pulls the lock open when the electric motor engages after pressing boot release button is attached to nothing!

This double loop has one loop for the auto boot release and the other for the manual pull tab behind the headrest, hence why neither worked.

Wanted to let everyone know in case I'm the first.
Hopefully none of you will suffer the same but best to post it just incase.

Now my number 1 homies at AAS have a full spare pontiac GTO boot lid so I think I'm either gonna use the bottom panel to replace the one they are gonna drill through OR maybe just use the whole GTO boot lid complete with spoiler!!!!!!

What say ye people of hsv forum????

Keep it looking standard CV8 or get the Pontiac GTO spoiler on???????

TBH Jay, I'm not a massive fan of bespoilered Monaros mate, and the GTO one is the worst of the lot IMHO. As already said however, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder

What about the plastic centre section across the rear of the bootlid. Can you not gain access to the lock with that removed?

Well the one from my picture is the one from the GTO the AAS guys have got!

Another question is how much of an effect does a rear spoiler actually have on a monaro?
Is it useful for traction at real world speeds or only at high speeds?

Whoever posted about the location of the manual boot release I owe you a pint!

Got to work and boot wouldn't open. Wallet, office keys, desk keys, mobile, glasses, coat all locked in! AA wouldn't help as "not a breakdown".

Managed to get to my PC and googled it. Thanks heavens for Pistonheads!
