I saw it in Dunfermline a couple of days back but was in traffic at the lights and the owner was going the other way so couldn't get to talk to him. Early VX series 1 shape but an '03 rego

It looked in really nice condition. Ideal for the daily and keeping the Ro or R8 for the fun stuff!

That looks like the one that was recently sold on PH from a dealer. I wonder why he is selling it so soon?

Deffo the same car Richard. Curious that it's up so soon after a purchase though, yes.
Maybe whoever bought it underestimated the cost of running a V8?

Unless its running like crap I assume it should be pretty reasonable.
Maybe it was the insurance and road tax that hurt?

Well it was pretty cheeky to call it a VY if it isn't (and it don't look like one). Maybe the autobox is toast???

I'd give him £3k for it anyway.

It's a VX series 1. You want me to go and have a nose over it?

It would make a nice drag project. If you have time Mate, that would be good.

It's not the same car as the one on here a few weeks ago. That was EU53 MMX, a car I bought brand new. It was a sorry tale, by the time the car was 10 months old and had covered 28k, the automatic box had failed 4 times. Had it rebuilt 3 times under warranty and on the fourth failure with 2 months of the warranty left over, decided enough was enough. I stupidly commenced a hugely costly (30k for me and I believe nearly double that for them) claim under the Sale of Goods Act, claiming the goods were not suffuciently durable. Slowly but surely, the costs mounted up and it reached the point where both parties had an 'in for a penny, in for a pound' mentality. The death knell for me was when their solicitors eventually googled my name and the car and discovered it had done one track day when it was a few weeks old and before the first failure. They were prepared to take it to the wire and if I had lost I would have been liable for their costs too. We mediated and both agreed to walk away, after what I believe was around 3 years. The car hadn't turned a wheel in all that time and I sold it back to them as part of the settlement, partially dismantled due to the investigations their lawyers had requested, for peanuts (about 2k). I know I could have got more for it, but you have no idea how draining the whole experience was. My wife in particular, never, ever, wanted to see the car again! I still bloody miss it though!

I stand corrected, sorry. I thought it was the same car.
That is a pretty awful tale, I hope it hasn't put you of Holdens? At least the Aussie built ones anyway!

The owner just got back to me and I'm off to see it this week.

Only just recovering financially from it now, but am considering a VXR8 vs an AMG Merc next, so I guess I never learn!

Funnily enough, for me, the VXR8 is actually the sensible option! Newer, less miles, supposedly less to go wrong. Budget will be high teens, so the AMG would be about 5 or 6 years old. Gotta love it when the 8 is the 'sensible' option!

What kept failing? dont tell me the 3/4 clutch..
Problem with the boxes is that they need beefing up - an OEM rebuild just isn't strong enough and will fail.

Correct! First 4th, then 3rd. It would start to show at full throttle upchanges from 3rd to 4th where it would slurr the change slightly, then just get progressively worsae until all you had was 1st and 2nd. Insufficient hydraulic line pressures due to a faulty ECU was one train of thought. Think I'll go manual next time!
