They were clearly without clue, I was told on the first rebuild that they had fitted uprated Corvette C5 clutch plates. Most of the miles were A road and motorway, I guess I will never really know for sure. 6 years ago, helpful people and info were not in the abundance that they would seem to be now! This actually seems such a good community that it's almost a good enough reason to choose the VXR for alone!

There's a wealth of varying experience and knowledge across the forum. Most questions can normally be answered and those that can't will be discussed until we find the information somewhere.
A few of us are engineers, tuners, body men etc etc so most stuff can be figured out.
Go get the VXR8!

Faulty ECU sounds bks.
OEM tune is ste anyway. You can increase line pressure in the tune. Stock tune should have been changed.
Not if there is a mechanical fault like a warped valve body.OEM tune is ste anyway. You can increase line pressure in the tune. Stock tune should have been changed.
Just got back from having a look over the Dunfermline car.
Cosmetically very good, one or two minor bits and could do with a machine polish and wax. As I said, it's a VX not a VY.
Wheels, tyres and brakes are all good.
The engine is as sweet as a nut, running very quietly, no noises that shouldn't be there, no smoke, good steady idle.
The auto box performed very well, extremely smooth. Good changes etc etc
Underneath the car is solid with only the usual rusty bits for these cars. All surface and minor, nothing dramatic.
The interior is spotless for a car this age.
Rear qtr window on the drivers side is cracked but the owner has a replacement waiting to go in.
Selling as he is an ex pat Kiwi working offshore and the car is only used 6 months of the year.
Car originally came from London but he's unsure of its birthplace (either South Africa or the Middle East).
First registered 2003 in the UK.
I'd buy it as a Daily driver if I had spare cash. A little bit of TLC and time and you'd have yourself a very comfy, tidy wagon.

Thats the problem - they make them "smooth" - but for them to last you need them to be a bit firmer so they are not slipping the clutches between changes (at heavy load - smooth is fine for cruising!)eliot said:

Sorry. Should have been clearer. Should have said positive rather than smooth. I know the kind of changes you mean but this was POSITIVE with no clunks, hanging on or jumping.
Hi, I just googled my Reg and found this history!
I bought the car from a very worried looking MOT tester on 31k and knew it had gone wrong before as when the 3-4 clutch went a year later I found some ray bestos parts in the box!
I had no idea it had caused this much trouble though?!
After being quoted 2.5k for a full rebuild I decided I had nothing to lose by giving it a go myself having successfully rebuilt several manual boxes.
Wow! What a mission!! Like a 1000 piece 3D jigsaw! 7 weeks, 500sovs and a bad back later and it was back together.
It wasn't until I was reconnecting that I noticed one of the pins pushed in on the black ECU interface box! Having pulled this back out and checked it for continuity the box behaved totally differently!! The force lock up actually worked!
I fitted a straight through exhaust, so you can actually hear it and an LPG kit so it feels like 60mpg on a run and its still going strong (and I mean strong) 25,000 miles later;)
All that for a connector pin?!

I stand corrected, sorry. I thought it was the same car.
That is a pretty awful tale, I hope it hasn't put you of Holdens? At least the Aussie built ones anyway!
The owner just got back to me and I'm off to see it this week.
