This months EVO just arrived on my doorstep and they have an interesting article on the TVR Power Sagaris demonstrator, their new engines and the fact that they are going to be remanufacturing TVR's with the original moulds which they have acquired from Smolenski.

It also has a piece on the Russian where he stated that TVR will not return to car production anytime soon.

Just a heads up

Who is 'they', if not Moleskins?

Ah! Must admit I didn't read it as that, as from memory I thought from threads over the last few years that Moleskins had precluded any manufacture by Power. Change of heart by Moleskins, or was I just reading previous threads wrongly? It would be great if Power could actually build TVRs, but I thought that British-built TVRs under Moleskins was not possible.

Ever since the factory in Blackpool closed over four years ago, there have been plenty of stories about how TVR is coming back. First it was with some Americans, then Italian styling house and car maker Bertone and latterly the German firm Gullwing. However, speaking from Austria, Nokoli Smolenski (right) says he doesn't see TVR getting back in the business of building blood-and-thunder sports cars again any time soon.

"The legislation for emissions and so forth is too difficult" says Smolenski. "I don't want to spend any more money building cars." If he did, he says, it would be much like the roadster that was for a time being developed by Gullwing, with Chevrolet LS V8 power, but negotiations on that have ended, he says. There will be TVR-branded new product though, just not of the type you might expect.

One of Smolenski's interests is a project to create independent power sources for agriculture in remote locations, running on sustainable energy. The German firm developing the electric motor technology associated with this will also supply the components for a fully electric TVR Sagaris that Smolenski is currently designing with the help of a Vienna university. "We are at the theoretical stage, looking at what power we need for a car capable of 150mph and a range of 250 miles" he says, adding that he hopes to have a running car by September.

He is happy to license TVR Power to refresh older cars. "We have all the jigs and moulds, they're in pretty good condition and TVR Power has all the facilities to refurbish cars" he says. There is the capability to refurbish every model from Chimaera to Sagaris, he says, and the use of the LS3 V8 gets his backing. He also reveals that TVR was looking at using Chevrolet power before the firm closed in late 2006, but that the LS engine at the time wasn't suitable. The Nissan 350Z V6 was also considered but rejected for not being powerful enough.

ETA: Does he really still look twelve or is that an old pic?

According to this, it leaves the original Speed Six Sagaris' still in that category of 'very rare' original biggrin

so you can order a "new" Griffith and or Chimaera with LS3 or refurbish your car with also a engine conversion?

and perhaps can order a TVR T350c with LS3 from the factory in LHD biggrin
must be possible, wonder what that would cost.

Excellent PR coup by Dom. You can't beat a full 8 page colour spread in the top national mag.

A shot in the arm for general awareness of TVR in performance car market too beer

GT3 and 458 owners need to be regularly informed and educated about what's likely to overtake them on their trackday, to please keep an eye on those mirrors ...

I am not sure of this, could Dom confirm what the plan is?

I read the article then thought - new TVRs being built - brilliant, but then re-read it and I am wondering whether it is more a case of completely rebuilding TVR's to better than new. Both are great news, but I am hoping the former is also true? I wish Dom and the folks at TVR Power all the best with all of this, I like the point about being able to retire but refusing to let TVR go quietly. thumbup

That's how I read it. Take one 1998 Chimaera, put it through the rebuild machine and a new car comes out the other end. I can't see TVR Power manufacturing every component and trim bit needed (even though much is available including complete chassis). I wish them the best with this venture and think it is aweseom that we have such strong after-market support (mind you TVR Power seems to be closer to Smolensky than anyone).
