So this is the correct part:

http://uk.farnell.com/souriau/sms6re4tr29/plug-pcb...

It says I can just have one @ £ 1.52, is that right? Above it says MOQ is 10?

That the right part. When you come to pay it says 'minimum payment £20 add more to basket'.

Bits arrived this morning. Safely filed away in case they're needed in future. Thanks.
Hmm, so my blower wasn't behaving last weekend, it worked on the way back from a drive but not the way out. I think I'll look at the connector. Now I've moved house twice since this connector was received... it may take me a while to find it frown

My heater amp is goosed and I'm going to repair it myself.

Does anyone have any of these parts spare?

I soldered fly leads directly to the board pins. The fitted a waterproof 2-way plug for the low amp wires and a Tamiya RC battery plug for the higher amp wires. About £5 in parts.

[quote=shep1001]Good evening all, with the taste of Paella and beer and visions of naked ladies on a Spanish Sunkist beach fading fast, I thought I would distract myself and bottom out this thread on connectors for the heater Amps.

The parts are now in (but not the crimp terminals frustratingly, so there will be a slight delay in sending out). I will be in touch with all those that expressed their interest with the total cost and payment details. £5 will cover all the parts needed to replace both connectors & pins, postage will be £1.50 ish for 2nd class.

For future reference here are the details that are needed to order more parts:

Company is www.Farnell.com

All the components are made by Souriau, put the part number (in parenthesis) quoted in to the search function on the Farnell website to take you to the bits you need. They have a minimum order of £20 for processing by credit card, postage is reasonable about £4.

Part # for the PCB mount 6 pin PCB mounted connector is (240151) £1.82 EACH
Part # for the corresponding 6 pin Connector plug is (3652130) £7.80 for min order 10 units
Terminals for the larger wires @ 0.8-1.5mm (x2) is (3652002) £6.60 for min order 25 units
Terminals for the smaller wires @0.35-0.5mm (x2) is (3652014) £6.90 for min order 25 units

Thanks Shep.

As you know, my heater controller started playing up on Friday. I removed it from under the dash yesterday, and it is the green wired connector that is at fault. If I wiggle it, the fans work.
So, no point in putting it all back in place until I have changed the connector. I shall order the parts from farnell.com.

Bit apprehensive about removing the male PCP pin and replacing them, though!

Does anyone know the gauge of wire I should order, as I would like to extend the length so I can place the module somewhere else?

I think I just went with 2.5mm as I had it to hand. Don't go too large otherwise you can't get the wire into the pins (2.5mm is a bit snug on the small pins). Before you do the male connector on the board, just try changing the loom side first. By gently pinching the pins in the plug you can make them fit a little tighter against the male pins on the heater amp. My amp now lives at the back of the air vent.

Thanks Shep smile I'll try that first.

Would 2mm be OK (I assume the 2.5 is the wire and not with the insulation?

I could get some coloured 2mm wires here:

2mm should be fine, its thicker than the thinest of the wire its replacing. I just used a single colour wire for all 4 wires & marked the wires up as I cut and re-terminated them into the loom one at a time. Just make sure you put the female bullets on the live wires on the loom side of the car, that way you can't splash them to earth on anything!

Thanks again, Shep, all ordered, just have to wait for it to arrive now. Hopefully saving a fortune in labour costs! (unless I mess it all up, of course..)

Shep,

Any chance I can get in on this action? I may have missed the original post. Having big trouble with my heater amp connector. It's currently zip tied on to force the connection but I don't like it.

Cheers,

Andy

I ordered the bits that Shep linked to, plus 4 lots of wire the same colour as the wires for the heater controller.

I cut off the 4 wires to the plug (left the stubs of wire in the plug so I could match them up with the new plug), and made up the new plug connector:

Very easy. I applied a smear of carbon conductive grease to each of the pins on the PCB board, plugged it all together and it works!

Just have to move the controller into the cold air tunnel now.

ETA - the plug and loom I have in the picture is a spare (I made two lots). Someone is welcome to have it if they PM me.

OK, all sorted. I drilled a small hole to the rear of the lower dash, that way, the wires would be high up, rather than dangling down in the footwell...
