Just to update everyone, my strip of brake lights whilst being a great idea, didn't work very well in strong sunlight. So I now run a stop/tail light at the top with the strip - still looks the same, looks great any time... smile (Note also the deleted reflector in the body...)

Ever consider a 3rd brake light on the top of the rear screen?

I suggested that to you didn't I? Or behind the drivers hump?

It's a no from me - less is more I think on this one!

Yes, now that you mention it, I think you did.

Just might have helped if the LED wasn't bright enough.

Not had that problem myself, but I can see how it might happen if the
LEDs not bright enough or not balanced properly.

I'm not 100% sure about the led lights in the first vid.
I like the idea of all three light positions performing all three functions but having watched the video loads of times over the past few weeks I keep thinking they look too "spotty".

Which combined stop/tail light are you using Don ?
Have you gone for led or normal lamps.

I quite like the dual brightness led replacements from svc which chrispap posted on page one of this thread. First thought was to have two either side but at £46/pair not a cheap options.
Another thought was just put leds in the existing fittings and make dual brightness, much cheaper.

Yes, I can understand that.

A better approach might be to make the whole light cluster a set of LEDs (and I mean the whole of it - thin rectangle at the top/rectangle at the side and these a control box to pattern the LEDs as appropriate.

I discussed the idea originally when the original version was shown to me from Don's car, but was told it was too complex to do.

Not sure why. Seems doable to me.

Paul - they are the same as Chrispap. They work really well, perfect size, and not that expensive... compared to a tank of full-fat fuel!

Hi Paul,

Long time no see.

I've wanted to improve the rear lighting for a long time, just never got round to it.
I'm not too bothered about changing the looks of the car, just the illumination.

I got the first video that Alex posted a few weeks ago and initially really liked the leds. While waiting for a quote for the units (now received) I viewed the video lots of times and now I'm not so sure !. Also, the video shows brake and indicator use but I've not seen them used as side/brake/indicators to see the difference in brightness.

Another option was to change the separate brake/side lights so that both lights are dual function.
There are several ways of doing this.
1. Change the units so you can fit a side/brake light in each.
2. Replace the lamps in the existing units with leds and wire them so they act as both side and brake lights.
3. Replace the exiting units with the dual function led units used by Don and Chris - not cheap but should be simple.

The only problem with option 3 is it'd look better if the indicator unit was changed to a matching one.

Are you looking just to improve illumination or change the look of the car too ?

Thanks Don,
I notice in true TVR style they decided not to use the mounting brackets on the lamps and have stuck/bonded the lamps in instead.
Are they easy to get out and what did you use to fix them in with ? - I'm a numpty when it comes to this stuff!

(As always), I'm honest about this - Racing Green did the swap, after I decided it needed changing, and Brendan at Concept performance supplied the parts. Judging by the not-massive bill, it wasn't a huge job, but certainly not the 30 second light cluster swap a L322 Range Rover is (as I found out today).

Sorry if that isn't massively helpful - I do know you need to un-bond the perspex cover in order to access the light for this properly. Obviously this then means you need to clean both sides, then re-bond it...

Thanks Don, I was originally told the perspex didn't need removing unless I was changing the top reflector.
Might be safest to leave this to the experts as the existing lamp units appear to be very well fixed and I'll probably end up breaking something.

Hi Mate,

Do not mind changing the look but illumination improvements will be a big bonus. I would prefer to go LED and more than happy to change the present units.

Can you email me with how much your new units cost?

Be great to get this done.

Paul.......

Don, when you say the leds didn't work well in sunlight what was your exact setup at that time ?
Did you just have the horizontal bar or others too ?

I'm still investigating this but it's a slow job as other stuff has got in the way.

Hi,

I've just bought LED taillights and bi-Halogen front lights for my Tam, albiet with T350 bodywork on it.
The rear lights were I think 46 pounds for a pair, or the same for single fog and reverse lights. They are decent quality and are the same size and shape as the standard Hellas, so will just slot straight in to the same hole. They come with bare wires though so you need to figure a way of connecting them into the wiring loom.

I've got some pictures of them in my own thread about half way down on the 4th page, or if this works, just below:

The front lights in a Tamora are essentially Bi-Halogen anyway, so I don't see the point of changing them? Unless you mean Bi-Xenon? I much prefer Xenon HID lights and these day won't buy a car without (if it's an option. I've bought the Hella Bi-Halogen projector lights from SVC too, and will be converting them to Bi-Xenon which will work in conjunction with the standard Halogen Hi-beams anyway, like modern cars do. ie- halogen main beam for 'flashing' during the day, but if the headlights are already on, the bi-Xenon and the standard Halogen will come on together for super high beam!
What are the dimensions of those? I am looking at modernising the rear lights in my Cerbera and 75-80mm is the exsisting size.

After a quick google I think they are the 55mm ones here?
