Very interesting and also been having a similar debate with myself!!!!

My reason(s) for possibly selling are (a) young family that I dont ahve enough time for and (b) I just dont use it enough.

However I still want to have a 2nd car / toy for me to have a blast in every so often, and this is where I am thinking of selling the Sag as I wont use it in bad weather so within the neext few weeks it will be tucked up till spring. So then I start to thing about other cars but just cant find anything that really gets you the same as the Sag does. Yes if I get something else Ferrari / Lambo I would probably use it more often, but then I came to my main criteria if I change...... it has to be quicker than the Sag and now thats a hard car to find at the right money.

Started to look at F430's then realised (a) they're everywhere (b) they're only just quicker than by daily drive and (c) they're no where near as quick as the Sag. So then you're into 599 / 458 or Murcielago money and while the idea of the Lambo excites me, would I be able to drive it anymore than the Sag, probably not and also would it be appreaciating in value like the Sag, NO

Then there is the money side you mention, I honestly dont belive these cars will break through the £60K barrier, and by next year will start to settle back to where they were 12/18 months ago, so if the money would be a help to your business my advice would be to cash in.... for what is worth

Go with your gut feel....... its usually the right one!!!

Incorrect, it's actually 10%, which is about the same as englands average, Birmingham has the highest in england of 15%, about the same as Glasgow city.

Id better go get some rope and tie down my 3rd world country before it floats away... smile

Hi Chris,
Just my 2p worth, as you know after having the same feelings about my T350 last year I bit the bullet and sold it, I must admit I haven't had the withdrawal symptoms that I thought I would've, just a lot bigger bank balancesmile I know it's a tough decision to make and even harder I should imagine as you have the ultimate £60k+ Sag! Whatever you choose good luck mate.

Understand exactly where you are coming from. I had the same dilemma with kids taking up the weekends, ummm over 20 years ago now.

Depends on your circumstances but my solution was to use whichever TVR I had at the time most days for work (100 mile round trip). Made the journey far more enjoyable, I got my car fix regularly so avoided thinking I must drive at weekends then worrying about the weather being bad, the cars got exercised which really is the best thing with them and I enjoyed the weekends too (mostly!).

Yes move to Scotland ,you will have so much more spare cash ..seeing as the English subsidise them !
Wow what a helpful intelligent contribution...

We pay the same tax as you and I guess the billions from the scottish sector of the north sea oil industry doesn't contribute to anything in England at all... However that's another story for a different forum.

Grow up

If it was up to me i would let Scotland float away ! Mate one in three are on the sick in Scotland ,you wil be a third world country if we stopped looking after your lot !
Agreed - pack it in - NOT the forum for this - I am English, have lived in and worked from Scotland for 20 years or so, and have no issue with the hard working and good natured people up here. We have five Sagaris in Aberdeen, and a large contingent of TVR owners - troll somewhere else.

Mods, take a look at this one please!

Some have already broken the £60k barrier. I wish I had a quid for every time I've heard "they won't break" this £ barrier, or that £ barrier, £40k, £45k, £50k, £55k, £60k in the last 4 years!!!. I completely disgree with your assertions. £60k barrier already met and on occasion surpassed already. The best original examples out there will be reaching £70k by the summer, that is my personal and most dealers assertion.

You Sir are talking absolute twaddle! Sorry, but you are. I will now bookmark this thread and we can return to the debate in June/July 2013 and see who was right.

I realise this may be of no help at all, but seriously upgrade it (FFF, 4.3/4.5), and fall in love with it all over again?

On topic:- I couldn't part with the Sagaris.

I think some of the posts here do define where this might sit in your conscience - which would appear to be what you are struggling with, firstly on the basis of economic logic: whereas you clearly are under no illusions in how you feel about the car itself.

Head and heart controversy!

In all of what you do in commitment to your family, you also have a duty of care for yourself - a bit of "me time" - and the sagaris, even in the garage, represents just that.

Stick with it, dreams are sometimes difficult to catch second time around.

Don makes a very good point, the needed upgrade imo definitely enhances the enjoyment in the Sagaris smile

OMG, common sense requires some serious treatment.

I'd never sell the Saggy. It arrived on a one year license but by involving the missus it earned her authorisation to stay. What happens now is that Saggy is part of our social life, we arrange lunch or days out with other TVR owning (and other marque) couples who like a run out/spin/blast whatever you call it and the group all have a laugh. There will be time in your life when the car will help you escape the pressures we all feel whilst trying to provide for our family, this can be within the limits..... sometimes.

Let your kids see what hard work can do, the message will get through without you saying it.

Best,

J

Had two and got rid of two. Miss the looks, but dont miss the drive or the build quality/ little annoyances that much. I do however miss my T350, but thats another story.
If its a thought of something different and a bit of cash in the bank then now is the time to sell. Prices are high, but if the moneys better in the business/bank, then when things are better you can get another.
I think that your Sag sale can get you something that ticks the boxes.
Just get something cheap to tide you over till spring. You will have then had enough time to test drive lots of cars and make an informed choice.
Just my two penneth, but good luck on whatever route you take.

If you'd read my post I said in my opinion and thats what it is!!!! Once these cars start to get into the £70K plus price range there are going to be up against some serious competition in that price point and for that reason I dont think they'll continue to rise.

My point wasnt so much about the price...... I've never bought any of my TVR's to try to turn a few quid, although luckily I have on a couple. There was a lot of chat the other year about Cerb prices rising and just look where they're at now. Whilst the Sag is a much better car, I cant see it continuing appreaciating the way it has over the last 18 months.....

I think you are missing the point - Sag prices will continue to rise (and all other good examples of TVR models) because there is no competition. TVR are no longer in production, there is nothing quite like them currently in production and will become more and more rare as people hang on to them. Good examples will become rare classics and thats what will drive up the price - not new model competition.

A ferrari 458 is twice the car an F40 is but the F40 is twice the price of a 458. The sagaris is TVR's version of an F40.

i sold my sag last december only thing i miss is the looks and sound not the build quality or niggly things going wrong!!
this is just my opinion but i think some of the current prices are to high and i think they will slow up this is only my opinion and i could be wrong!!!!
the current ones on the market at 56k plus haven't flown out and are still for sale if they are going to hit 70k in a few months why are these cars not sold as soon as they hit the market i think if anyone is thinking of selling now is the time as i think there values are going to at least stable if not fall a bit but who knows we will just have to wait and see!!!

My thoughts exactly! No competition, they are what they are, nobody will build another, people love them, the numbers are reducing, I believe they will continue to rise in value.

Sean, there have actually been 3 sell that were up for £56k and they sold within a week or two of advertising. There are other buyers out there, since buying my one I've had a couple of emails asking for info on other cars that they thought I might have looked at.

I'd tend to agree with this. Sold mine back in March without really having to try but probably could have achieved more. Anyway it was never meant to be an investment so was just glad not to have got hosed to the extent that I have on other cars, and indeed other TVR's.

My reasons for selling were similar to those expressed by others here. Lack of use, impracticality on a day to day basis, all those frustrating miles waiting for the oil temperature to reach the level where the rebuild paranoia starts to recede, plus the odd part failure. So then stepped into something which popular opinion might consider equally unusable, in the form of an F360. Now I'm sure the performance is less, but it makes a lot less fuss about it, and I've already covered more miles in the last 6 months than I did in each of the previous 5 years in the Sag.

I won't say anything aganst the Sag, but when it came down to it the best experiences I had were all on the track; on a day to day basis I just couldn't be arse'd to get it out and use it. The F car I actually jump into at the drop of a hat; need some milk, go for a run, picking a shop a bit further away just for laughs, not merely to introduce the chance that the oil will hit 70.

Good luck with your choice, but make sure you either drive it or get something you will

Reason I made the tough decision to move from TVR to Lotus, was that after nearly 15 years of wonderful TVR moments, I was using it less & less, & just about all my real fun was on track.

For me, the roads were no real fun anymore. Also, with two young sons in tow, I would certainly not go hooning about any more.

I now have a little Lotus that is perfect for track & it really doesn't matter if it sits in the garage unused for months on end.
