For those of you that haven't seen the "Tamora stuck brakes" thread here're some pictures of my Tamora's chassis. TVR Power noticed major corrosion which needed some sections to be cut-out and replaced! Dom hadn't seen a chassis this bad before and put the problem down to poor materials being used in its construction.
The car is just short of 11 years old and has covered 72,000 miles (see blog for full details).
Cheers....
Andrew

The bad sections:-

Bad sections cut out:-

New sections added and sprayed:-

What chassis work did you have done in Feb 10?

It was a similar problem back then although it seems the full extent of the problem wasn't realised. It certainly hadn't got to the stage where sections needed replacing.
I don't have any facilities to check it myself so need to rely on TVR Power when the car's with them.
Cheers....

Thought this thread might've attracted more attention. Did your car have that Nimbus type heatshield fitted or was that done on later cars? I seem to remember a thread on here a while ago where someone had a simmilar problem and had heatshield fitted around that area after a repair was made ??

Think everyone's in the garage checking under their cars! First T car I've seen with chassis rot to that extent? Que the rush of photo's of rotten Tuscans.....

Repair looks good - glad you got it sorted

it looks almost as if the car had been getting jacked at the wrong point which was denting/damaging the framework and coating. pretty bad rust there too!

Just jack the car up once in a blue moon and have a nose around - most of the chassis can be seen

Indeed, I would say so too

There does seem to be a lack of heat protection separating the chassis from the cats and exhaust though. And this could be the primary instigator in the corrosion by 'burning' off the chassis paint and allowing corrosion to form, then going unnoticed over a long period of time.

yes

Heat shields fitted to late T350 & sags

Also could be Poor welds allowing water into chassis not out too

Thanks Graham, will make note to have it checked and added to at service time.

Is that not the area battery sits acid spilage in that area would that not cause simmilar prob over period time all hidden behind battery cover untill spotted perhaps when battery being disconnected to allow servicing to take place may also be a check area as well as the Anderson connector for probs.

The majority of current batteries are sealed, so you wouldn't get spillage. The problem from what I could see is more to do with water being flicked up from the front wheel onto a surface where the protecting layer has been affected by heat from the cat. The heat shield then traps the water.

Additionally its made worse if the car is used all year in all weathers ie wet roads with salt on. Basically avoid wet winter roads or your chassis might melt smile
