As you can see from the photographs there is heat damage to one of the sockets; there is also evidence of heat damage where the black wire enters the plug.

Does anyone know if an aftermarket plug is available that i can wire in?

thanks

I have one bob, let me have your address again & I will post it to you. You buy them from RS but they have a minimum order of £20 which buys quite a few sets (they also sell the pins and the board plugs)

I have moved mine by extending the wires when I replaced the plug so I can sit it in the heater vent to keep it cool. The wires are a bit thin for the current it has to handle.

I've had the same problem in the past and couldn't source the right connector, glad they are available!

I've got a different problem with mine now. The connector block on the circuit board has been snapped off frown a passenger on a track day used his feet to brace himself and inadvertently put a lot of pressure on the connector (it was poorly located obviously) which pretty much snapped the connector off of the circuit board frown

Do you have any of these available? Or know where I can get one? I tried bodging it but it isn't making a good connection unfortunately.

I don't want to have to shell out £120 for a new heater amplifier when it is just the connector!

Thanks!

If it's the part i think you're referring to, I replaced mine last year as the pins were also showing heat damage - Graham Varley supplied me a refurbished one in exchange for mine plus a cash (considerably less than £120)

PM him, he may have another

I might have a spare I will look tonight. You can buy all the bits you need from RS - see an old thread of mine. They have a minimum order of £20 which buys about 8 sets of plugs (both ends) and new pins. Just sell the others on, that's what I did.

They don,t cost £120 to refurb either I had mine done last year for a lot less.

Thanks guys, the response is very much appreciated!

The annoying thing is I purchased a new heater amplifier back in 2006 / 07 for around £60 I think from TVR Power but ended up not needing it as it was the plug which was at fault so I returned it. I can't see the part listed anywhere other then Racing Green TVR online at the moment which is where I got the price from. Will have to give Dom a call maybe and see what he can do despite not listing them on the site.

I shall dig through your old threads and find the info on the RS parts, I had a quick look at the RS web site and trying to find the right part would be almost impossible unless you know the correct name or something specific to search on!

I've not done soldering for many many years so not sure how well I'd be able to solder a new connector on, my current attempts haven't gone too well but then again I don't have much to work with on the snapped connector!

Thanks again!

Nick

Wouldn't it be the best moment to get rid of the plug, which doesn't stand the current ? You could solder in the wires in the amp and use a different plug combination.

I was thinking about that. I wonder if a trip to Maplins would be sufficient to buy a new type of connector and solder wires to the circuit board as you suggest, it definitely crossed my mind last night although I think the cheap soldering iron I have isn't really working as it should either frown

Thanks for the info! I got all excited that I could order just 1 PCB connector (no minimum order) but then realised as you said in your thread that I had to order £20 worth due to minimum credit card transaction value frown If you could check to see if you have one spare that would be very much appreciated, I'll cover all costs for postage, part etc.

I might still look to see if I can find a connector available off the shelf in Maplins that I can connect using wires though to the PCB tomorrow. I was hoping to have fans available for a track day on Wednesday but I suppose it isn't that warm that I need fans at the moment anyway smile

I might also give Dom a call at Power to see if he has anything.

Sorry Nick, I only have a couple of the plugs off the loom end left. I am sure if you spent the £20, others would buy the 'spares' off you, thats what I did.

Thanks for looking Andrew, I'll see if I can make something in the interim to get it working. Been for a drive around the block in the TVR for the first time in 6 or 7 months tonight. I have a track day on Wednesday. Fingers crossed no interior fans is all I have to worry about smile

Sorted my PCB connector by replcing it with wires soldered directly to the PCB smile Does the job. Will now have to see about re-locating it in the cold air channel behind the glove box.

Stick it in the air vent, just make sure you locate it horizontally so as not to restrict the air flow too much

Okay to bring this thread to a conclusion.

I bought a replacement trinary switch(?) from Graham Varley at Chatsworth in April 2011, this improved matters, but still not right, then did bog all for 2 years, but that's me.

Resurrected the issue in April this year and Shep was straight in with help supplying me a new plug.

Today i watched Kevin63 remove the old plug and wire in the new one, it now works perfectly.

Thanks chaps, really appreciate the help thumbup

It looks as though the tamora needs the same job doing to it.

Has anyone got any stock of the plugs, pins etc that they would like to sell on?

If not i'll start a new thread for people who want them and I'll do an order
