The small dash fan is on so presume you mean on the LCD board? Is there anywhere specific I should try or should a volt meter pick up the reading anywhere?

Apologies, electrics are not my strong point!!

Thanks Shep, I will try this when I am with the car this afternoon.
I kindly heard from the original poster of this topic and his problem was solved by sending the ECU to Paul but wasn't sure what work was done.
I am more then happy to do this but just simply down to the turn around time, sending everything off etc, should a good local auto electrician be able to plug the ECU you in and perform a reset or read of any faults?

A dodgy battery does the same effect on dash crazyness. I had this (and almost every other cause on separate occasions). On this occasion I'd never have guessed because the volts read ok on the dash. AA man said otherwise.

Just had a brand new battery. Out of ideas so think I'll send ECU off Monday to Paul for his guess.

If you send the ECU you will need to send the clock pack too.

Yeah not really ideal. Do you know where PS Electronic Solutions are located, don't think there is an address on the website?
May be worth a run down if not too far.

Wesham in Lancashire. Postage fully insured will cost you £25 each way as its heavy. If you need contact details or the address I have it.

Try new cables between the clock pack & the ECU first. Cheapo old school printer cables (you can get two under £10) will do the job. Wish I had tried this as it cost me £100 all in, for my clocks & ECU to go to Paul to discover the fault was in my ribbon cables not the hardware!

Thanks Shep.

Changed the cables and still the same, just a black screen.

I'm happy to pay to have it sorted, tried calling Paul yesterday but couldn't get through to him, it's more the turn around time. And small amount of hassle.

Does anyone feel it is worth buying the data cables and trying to run diagnostics on their own computer?

Any luck getting this sorted? Be interested to know what it was?

I've had my heater amp fixed but my fan doesn't work so wondering if it's this dash ecu!

Yes all sorted but did have to send ECU and clocks to PS Electronic Solutions for a week.

Basically the replacement screen was a newer updated one and the hardware just needed a small adjustment.

Glad to hear.

My dash ecu is away tomorrow. I'm gonna run the car without it over the weekend as I haven't had any heaters for ages anyway!

Have you checked the voltage on the loom side of the car? The first time I had issues with the heater amp it was on the plug on the loom not the amp itself

No I haven't.

Having refitted the amp, I've earthed the yellow wire on the heater amp and the fans kick in so the amp is fine.

I've also checked the heater flap and clicked the microswitch inside the heater box, to trick the ecu into thinking it's fine, which it isn't. However, the fault 24 doesn't appear on the dash when doing this trick, so ecu should think everything is ok and the fans should work but they don't.

It's looking like a dash ecu fault for both so sending it to Paul smith to check its function works properly.

Any tips on how to remove the dash ecu?

Seat out to get good access or does it slot out? Seems a tight squeeze!

Nah just slide it out by the side of the pedals it's stuck in on Velcro. multi-plugs are all different sizes so you can't plug it back in wrong. I chased the flap fault error code for ages it ended up being a loose connection in the wiring in the ps side footwell.

I'll get it out in the morning. Will the car still run, albeit without the dash working as I'd like to drop the car off to get a new oil hose fitted on Tuesday!

Never tried, only with the clocks unplugged

Why don't you read the thread ? The answer is hidden somewhere :-)

Incidentally my problem was solved by sending the dash ECU to PS as well, been fine since. And yes you can drive without the dash smile
