After having my car sorn for 12 months now, I'm seriously considering selling. Mainly because I would like to use the money for other things, undoubtedly more boring use of my money! I've toyed with it on and off for ages.

The car doesn't really cost me a huge amount to keep at the moment, so I've been sitting it out to see where the market goes, but it would be nice for the car to be used by somebody. I'm embarrassed to say I am one if those owners with a sag that only seen 16000 miles, I just rarely find time to use a sports car now, and when I do, the roads are always full of Sunday drivers et al.
In a dream world I wouldn't sell, but I don't own an oil refinery and have enjoyed ownership so far.

I know there is always a lot of heated debate on sag prices, but I think realistically they will continue to rise, where the top is, I would not know!
In my head I've always had the 60k figure as a deciding moment when the car would be better sold as I don't get the usage from it and I could certainly put the money to better uses(I must be getting old).

Do people think that cars are getting up to these values (and selling) and if this year will prove good to sell.
Anybody who is holding on or buying as an investment - do the opposite to me and you'll be fine!!!

2 have already sold for 60k and another for 67k yesterday, I do believe Good Sags will hit 100k in a few years, my 360CS has appreciated by 70k since I've owned it and I would bet Sags will go the same way.

Wasn't the 67k sag a 4.3 though?

100k?! I could see that in 20 years or so when they have more of a classic status and red tape means we all flinstone style cars!

Hmmm, maybe not such a good idea to sell then!

The £67k Sag was indeed a 4.3. Was it a real sale?

But it was also a post-bankruptcy build, so relatively speaking very new!

Previously to this, I have been of the opinion that, in a world where people like their classics to be as original as possible, it would be better to have a 4.0 than a 4.3 (or 4.5 or 5.0) when only considering resale. Am I wrong?

I personally don’t think that a reasonable modification to a TVR will affect the price in any way other than positively. There is a tradition of engine modification, wheel upgrades, steering wheel changes, suspension upgrades, exhaust modifications, interior re trim, colour, brake and diff upgrades….list goes on.

Looking at some of the classics it gets down to the original caps on the engines, the horn, the steering wheel…..just cant see that for a TVR it's just not the tradition. In 15 years + I think that may change as originality will be the rare beast. However that will be 15years of minimal driving…and that is a crime.

I have to agree with this.

I remember watching that TG review of the then new T350, and using the Harrier as an analogy for looking and sounding the same, but it has had upgrades over the years to keep up with more modern stuff and keep it in the game still.

I think this is certainly the case with the engine upgrades. I am stone cold sure that if TVR were still in operation today, the engines used for the new cars would be what Dom has done for the 4.3-5 litre as standard for the new cars - that or the LS engines, and we are seeing both options being implemented now, with fantastic results - they can still cut it with cars that cost many tens of thousands more.

Also, I think that adding high quality parts, be it new diffs, brakes etc is a no brainer if the originals are getting a little tired, and, for those who have that fake leather Bison interior, changing the whole lot to real leather can have nothing but a positive impact on value and desirability, surely? Couple this with the fact that newer cars are so laden with every electronic gadget imaginable, with each costing a lot to fix if it goes wrong, then TVR's and similar will always have a fan base for those who love the raw driving experience with nothing diluted. Perhaps..

Here's an interesting question... If the Pea green Cat D was still up for what it was up for 2 years ago (circa £30k) would you now buy it / would it sell?
In fact, I'd say that one's pricing has been a good measuring tool for Sag appreciation in the last 24 months. Doesn't sound wrong either... good ones were fetching £40k back then... good ones are now (apparently) fetching £60k+

Are they? This one with about 15K on the clock, a 4.5 engine, 19" factory spec wheels and c/f brakes fetched £50K http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

That's because John was pricing it to get rid of it very quickly. No other reason and if you monitor the Sags you'll also
see a few 60K+ ones have also sold very quickly.

Personally, I think John could have priced his at £60+ and still sold it quickly, but he needed the space ASAP, so someone
has been very, very lucky. biggrin

Is there a reason for editting the register ??? I've read Hiltis' posts ...he got £42k from the insurance as a writeoff in 2008. I'd be a pissed off if I paid alot of money for it.

I saw the HPI report from John which said it was not an insurance write off and he said it never had been written off, so I modified it to make it correct.

I include the HPI report segment from below.

Note - removed image as might contain restricted DVLA info. The hpi reported as all clear.

If it's wrong, then feel free to change it back.
