Same system on mine idles at over your 5000rpm value.
How long has it been on? Mine's definitely getting louder.
It has but it was last tested a long time ago, and it would have been fairly recently on.

Just for clarity... are you guys talking about the act/jp back box, or about the big bore full system that this thread is about?

Back boxes with noise deadening material (glass fiber type stuff iirc, but no idea if act big bore has that) need to be re packed when the stuff breaks down.

I have the sports backbox. It is demonstrably louder than the standard item. The full big bore systems is going to be louder still. Remove the cats, and it'll be louder again.

With cats, standard pipes with cherrybombs and the ACT Sports backbox mine produced 105dB at 5000rpm in hot weather. In cold weather the sound level meter will / does read louder.

It's the full system I'm talking about. It was designed (on my car) to be quieter than the back box. The intention was to produce something suitable for track days (with cats in place. Which mine never are).

So it includes everything from the cats back? I guess I could offset the cost by selling the Power sports bean cans at the rear...

It's just these bits. I bought the decals separately, long before JP made the system.

Cheers - I will have this and perhaps the CF airbox later this year....

Does the standard system have cherry bombs in it?

If it doesn't then maybe I have the ACT big bore system. In which case, no you won't pass the 101dB sound test unless it's a very hot day, you lie about the rev limit and the sound test area is very open (like Snetterton).

That is different to mine then.

Standard, as I believe mine are, has a thicker section in the middle like the act.

I ordered the ACT big bore system today, to be fitted at David Geralds in April. I am hoping it eliminates the drone at around the 3k mark.

I have a red rose so it has a de-cat ACT big bore system. It sounds beautiful, but on the long motorway slogs it can get wearing at circa 3,000 revs. There are also situations when I leave or get home at unsociable hours and I think the neighbours have had enough of my 'apologies in advance' notices!

I don't want to move to a quieter system as it's a red rose and I want to keep it original (and love the sounds round town / through the gears), but equally it would be nice to have a variable valve set up at the flick of a switch for the odd occasion where less noise is better.

Just wondered if anyone knows anything about such set ups? I know there's a company called IPE who make full systems which have these sort of remote control valves built in. But are there any 'bolt on' systems which can be used to modify existing systems?

I'm doubtful but just thought i'd throw the idea into the mix

I am sure an original Red Rose would have had cats - could you not try it with the cats in?

Another vote here for the JP big-bore 'trackday friendly' version.

I've had it since 2010, mine was their early prototype T350 done around same time as the first Tamora, which I took back for mods (acoustafil expanded foam filling & more silencing - a slightly larger back-box I think) to end up with JP's final version that has got me in to even the most harshly tested 99db venues - Castle Combe & Bedford - with my decatted 4.2 Six. No drone anywhere in range either smile

Is the JP big bore system the same as the Act version, does anyone know?

Chris, I think ACT just sell the JP Exhaust manufactured by www.jpexhausts.co.uk

Ah, Cheers, good to know, Tim from ACT did tell me the system will be quieter that what I have (standard with Powers sports bean cans). He said it should eliminate the drone at around 3k revs - something I want to get rid of before I take the Tam to Italy.

Am also hoping the slightly larger bore may help when I have it remapped once a the new engine has a few thousand miles under its belt......

Hope it still pops, crackles and bangs, though...

Yes I should have mentioned Tim at ACT too - his TVR services and demand encouraged JP to do these and sell through ACT's respected brand.
