After giving my Tam her first proper clean, it occurred to me that the lower front of the radiator is quite exposed, and thought that perhaps some chrome/SS type of wire mesh would look quite good in the front lip.

Has anyone tried this, or is it me being an anal idiot?

I had a rather exposed rad, though of course it was the aircon condenser, in a Renault Safrane a few years ago. After the second time it got punctured by flying stones and had to be replaced at a cost of £750, I took some mesh along to the Renault dealer, who looked surprised but interested, and fitted it for me.

Last I heard he was marketing similar mesh as a cut to size kit.

My Griff came with some chicken wire which seemed a bit pointless as the holes were so large so I replaced it with some of his

That looks perfect! I will buy some of that. I am guessing you'd need to glass fibre/epoxy it in place on the inside edge of the opening?

On my griff it was pop riveted to the inside just in front of the rad, I just drilled out the old pop rivets, although half of them weren't actually gripping the old mesh anymore. Then pop riveted the new one in using some washers to help grip the mesh, easy enough as I already had the rad out for replacement

here is a picture of the mesh before the rad went back in

Cheers smile Although I am not sure the Tamora has anything like that pop riveted, which is why I am assuming the mesh would need to be glued in place, either with actual fibre glass or epoxy resin - or sikaflex...

Do you know how the mesh was attached?

I assume the rad needs to be removed to fix it in place?

Is that the Tamora that has been spotted parked up in an Italian airport carpark?

Is this the guy that asked Raceproved to fit igniters in his exhausts, spends a lot of his time touring Europe?

Back to this topic...

I almost bought the aluminium mesh that is linked in this thread, but then though, would stainless steel be better? Something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pitking-Products-304-Gra...

But am still stuck on how to fix it securely in place without the need to drill holes for nut/bolts/pop-rivets in the inside 'mouth' of the Tam opening.

I am thinking that perhaps if it is bent to shape to follow the contours of the inside of the mouth, would Sikaflex do?

lots of people use sikaflex to bond the mesh onto the inside of the nose cones and air inlets on cobras it works fine. using a fine matt black painted mesh makes it almost invisible

some keep the mesh flat and make a border of metal, which is fixes with some bracketry where it cannot be seen, either fibreglassed to the body or the chassis somewhere.

I have a sheet of black aluminium mesh with the same idea in mind. I've done similar on an MX5 and it looks fine. I split a length of windscreen washer tube to bond to the edges of the cut mesh.

With the MX5 there were a couple of handy brackets already there, but I'm thinking of tacking some to the inside of the mouth with self-tappers.

Good idea! I need to see what access I have from behind the nose...
