Dash pod died after I left the garage (next time it was started up) frown ... waiting for Paul Smith to fix it, for a second time after I fried the dash ecu by connecting the battery with ign on... Its one of those very testing tvr owning times at the moment... frown
Hopefully it will come back with a silver lining, in the form of decent ride quality at low speed. The nitrons do work very good at speed, but you cannae drive everywhere like that just to smooth the bumps!

I have to admit, I have now got used to the new set up - it no longer feels so harsh. Perhaps the nerves in my back have numbed!

So what we thinking is best for fast road/track? Drove a sag today and easy amazed how scittish the back end was on the standard suspension so thinking my tam is probably going to need some fettling!

I think after 13 pages of this thread (and many similar ones), it's fair to conclude that there is neither a "best" nor, indeed a "standard". There are so many permutations and equally many practitioners of the art of suspension tuning. If you're getting a new car, congratulations. Enjoy, show it respect and build up an understanding of its ride and handling. It may or may not need any work to meet your hopes for it.

Chris if you're ever down near Berkshire then you're welcome to come out in my Tuscan. It's running 375front/300rear springs, and specifically road based valving was put in when I ordered them direct from nitron.

I'm really pleased with them, and actually with the damper adjustment set anywhere less than 10from soft, they actually ride softer than the original bilsteins.

I have been out in other tvr's with the standard Nitrons and also found them to be a little harsh (not overly so, but definitely felt very fast road/track biased), but I'm now really happy with my new set up.
What are the standard spring rates on a Tuscan and Tuscan S? Any change between mk1 and mk2 spring rates?

Sounds like a plan, I could feel on a few roundabouts the rear starting to feel loose way before I would have expected it to! Look forward to getting it to curboigh though and setting a base time for a standard car then seeing just how much each 'improvement' each mod makes

Jony, have you checked the tyre pressures? You would be amazed how many people run the tyre pressures far too high through never having thought to check, or having been to KwikFit where they stick 33-36 psi in without asking.

It will make the car feel like you describe.

If all is functioning as it should, a sag should not feel skittish at the rear.

Could have been pressures maybe, not my car, but it's a well cared for example, and the guy also takes part in the sprint champs too so would have thought he'd check pressures?

Anyway heard back from Martin, all seems good with the car, he has said though one of the front shock seals isn't the best so this is a job I need to be looking at sooner rather than later. Shame he's just waiting on a small exhaust mount to be delivered so won't have it this weekend frown

Sorry Peter, but it involves an MOT fail on possibly 2 Chimaera's, with the same cracking of the shock obsorber mounts. I cant really say anymore with Pistonheads policys, which you know of better than me frown. The gentleman who has the picture has been advised to share on here, but I cant use his piccy, as it is belongs to him, if you know what I mean.

Maybe just that production batch with a poorer grade of ali used, it can happen in any manufacturing unfortunately.

The post references a fail on bushes and the crack was only noticed post MOT and was found on both sides, not during the MOT. The message being that the crack isn't easily visible, so check carefully.

In my search to replace the nitrons (fingers crossed I get it back today) I found that if you do a search on "broken shocks" + 'insert brand' you get tons of hits like "broken after 100 miles" for ALL brands, even the super expensive ohlins break, ×××× happens...
