yes, I got the 'Group Buy' deal, the 4.3 including injectors and heavy duty starter motor for £8,400.

Couldn't really afford it right now, so I/we took a loan out to cover it and take advantage of the £1k discount. I usually save up for this sort of thing..

My wife already took some convincing (and even now, she isn't 100% convined as it is), imagine what she'd be like if I have to tell her I need to spend another £1k on stuff we already bought, worse, something she bought me for my birthday! And I couldn't really blame her.

I have the ACT version on my T350, my brother the Powers version on his Tuscan.
Apart from the color they are both virtually indistiguishable and of Samco quality (I would guess they both are originally sourced from Samco anyway).

So either they are preformed correctly or not. The ACT ones had exactly the same shape than the old ones I threw out of the car, but new ones are definately of better quality. Good thing was, that the hoses were a bit longer, so that you can fit them to your very car, if the components would be slightly out of place or something like that.

I didn't like the jubilee clips by the way. My ACT kit had the slotted clips, which are not as sturdy as the solid clips with deep draws bumps. They are of A4 / 316L / 1.4404 quality which is very good and should not corrode in normal service.

90% certain I have blue ACT hose kit on my Tamora, they were fitted before I bought it, there's a receipt somewhere. Seems to be ok, think they've been on at least 4yrs.

You never know Chris, maybe one day you'll do something to your Tam that goes smoothly with no issues!! Hope you get sorted.

OK, I rang Dom, and he said he can get the rad to fit.

Apparantly, the problem with the rads is that there are three slightly different versions for the Tam alone (so I was told), whereas the Radtec versions take the slight differences into account.

The ACT silicon hoses do not fit, I was told, so Power's version are on the car. I have been promised some pics of the build later, I shall post them on here.

frown - That would be nice. It's a hard enough decision spending such sums on a 14 year old car, even harder convincing the wife. When stuff like this happens, you cannot help but wonder if you're doing the right thing. It leaves a sour taste when it should be a great experience...

Mate - I share your pain. My wife hates my car as it is, even more so with a service next week and knowing the cost.
On the subject of the hoses, was Dom stating they wouldn't fit the new engine as they were already trimmed or that the ACT hoses in general were no good?

Dom was a bit vague on the hose subject - he just told me they didn't fit! I am not the expert, who am I to argue...

Was so pissed off yesterday, partly at the thought of telling my wife I may have to spend another £1k on parts we already bought.

You have no idea how much grovelling I had to do to get her to agree to take a loan out for that car! hehe

It's easy for me to say Chris as I am the softest customer a specialist could ever wish to meet, as well as a mechanical numpty, but to me "being vague" doesn't cut it. Why are the ACT parts no good? Why don't they fit? Why must you have to fork out an extra £1k and why has it been left until this stage in the game to come to light?

I feel for you Chris, first the retrim and calliper painting at Central was a cock up and cost you a fortune, then you have had problems with your Nitrons, now your rebuild is leaving a bitter taste in your mouth, such a shame as you are never going to recoup your investment ( not that was the plan) but you wanted a keeper that you will love forever, I hope you don't start to regret it after all this agro...All the best Gordon

I will get to the bottom of this. I chose the ACT hoses because that's what most people chose when changing the rad and hoses. Why would I ever think they'd be a problem?
yesterday, I was told that they're no good because they 'kink', and today I am told they're no good because they don't fit - but my engine config is exactly the same as everyone elses!

Cheers smile. I did get some money back from Central, and the Nitrons don't seem so bad now. I do plan to have a full geo and new tyres for the Summer, and perhaps raise the ride height slightly too.

Funny, on each occasion when enquiring about having the work I want carried out, nothing is a problem, they tell me that they've worked on hundreds of TVR's and know them inside out - no job is too small or beyond their expertise, and other very comforting words. As soon as they have your business, however....

Having said that, I still have faith in Dom, and am sure I shall love the car when I get it back.

So, I will have a new set of ACT hoses for sale very soon...

Chris

I got Dom to fit their silicon hoses when he done my engine as it makes sense with the engine out what colour did you go for I went for black as I did not like the bright orange ones, seemed a bit odd just having two colours to choose from

Not long now before you get the car back

I too went for the ACT black hoses, I prefer the subtle look...

It would be nice to know which of the ACT hoses 'kinks' and where. Or is it all of them?

I didn't notice any kinking when I fitted my set of ACT hoses. Does the engine conversion change the entry points for the hoses or relocate the engine in some way?

To be blunt, I'd expect a clear explaination and identification of which hoses are effected from one of the leading SP experts rather than vageries.

This is the ACT hose kit my wife bought me - the one without the added expansion tank, which isn't on my car:

I also ordered the ACT Speed 6 Heater link pipe and the Speed Six engine connection water pipe. I thought I'd get the cooling system covered for the new engine..

ETA: And this is the rad - there is only one option on this site:

I have the same rad and stainless pipes sitting waiting to be fitted.

As above if it's dry [at some point] this weekend I'll have a go at fitting and report back.
