I asked Dom, he said I should insure the car for £24k minimum.

Nice and sunny today, sigh.....
Personally Chris I'd say more than that given the work you've had done. Whats the price of a good Tam? About 20k plus? Add in the 4.3 I'd say an agreed value of at least 28. The whole point of an agreed value is to get you in the position you were in prior to an event happening. It's not always reflective of a cars market value.
There are many of us on here with agreed value policies (mines with Manning) and they are definitely worth happening as otherwise an insurer would base any payout on a standard car with no reflection on the actual work done.

You're right, when I think of the amount of money I've spent on this since I bought it, it's quite scary! Spent way more on sorting the car than the actual purchase price...

Still can't help thinking that that CF airbox would finish off my engine bay perfectly...Must resist, lest my wife kills me...

Dom must be having a bad day that's miles out look at this Tamora with standard engine you need to up to at least £28,000

Ask him to think again as you think its on the low side

Yeah, I saw that Tam, and it's got 9k miles more on the clock than mine! And it doesn't have super value part sprayed callipers like mine!

I think that Dom just doesn't like me anymore.... hehe

I have 20K agreed on mine without an engine re-build and 32,000miles on the clock. I did have new hide interior & carpets + full re-spray though + a few other bits and bobs

Looking to get it increased this year by another 2-3K, depends what the valuers say as you need their backing to support your claim.

^ def too low shep. My Tuscan is insured for over double that!
You should be able to justify it just by listing what you've spent, plus how much it would cost to buy another standard car to start with, that's the whole point of having the agreed value. Yes your premium might be s bit higher plus most places charge a fee, but for peace of mind it's a very good thing to have in place.

Having previously spoken to insurers about agreed values its not the rebuild cost, or the cost of a standard car plus any mods. It's the value the car will realise in the present market.

Kind of, although that's what the "market value" is there for really. If you insure your car and declare it is worth 30k, that doesn't stop them offering you £15k if you write it off, so long as you could buy an equivalent car for £15k.
If you declare it is worth 35k and have an agreed value of £35k then that what you'll get in a write off. And it shouldntbe too hard to get someone to value it higher than the current cars on the market if you've done loads of work on it especially the bigger stuff like engine/respray/retrim.

There's no hope of my car selling privately for over 35k in the current market, but it's insured and agreed for 45.

Cheers, I'll change the insurance as soon as I can.
I increased the value of mine on the insurance and it didn't change the cost. I will increase it again when I get the cosmetics sorted. I bet you cant wait Chris. Just in time for the sun to start coming out smile
smile I will ring up my insurance company tomorrow and see what they say, once I have a value figure off Dom.

there have been so many times over the past year or so when I have wanted to contact you for a drive in your 4.3 - but I know myself too well, if I did, then nothing else would have mattered, I would have wanted that 4.3 there and then!

Once I have recovered from this outlay, I will have the big bore exhust system and my new Tuscan S cats fitted (The cats should fit, shouldn't they)?
Enjoy picking her up today Chris, perfect day for it. I don't know about the cats but I think the S was big bore so I think you will be ok. My car is mechanically good now but all the cosmetics need sorting. Re spray and re upholster next. I guess that's another 10k! But then she will be perfect like yours smile

Thank's chaps!

Sunny, too! I have to go into work with my wife in Gloucester, get a hire car and then off to Coventry - should be there around 1-ish.

I texted my dad to ask if he wants me to pick him up on the way to come with me, but declined - I think he thinks I'll drive like a nutter! In reality, I'll be driving like Miss Daisy!

ETA - he's decided he wants to come now... hehe

Am home! Left at 9.00 this morning!

Picked my dad up in Redditch and arrived there around midday. Spent about half an hour there, going over everything with Dom, and I have my warranty and car valuation letter (£29,999). Looked at the engine bay - wow! What a difference, it all looks so great.

The engine was very 'lumpy' when heading off, but as I did another 50 or so miles, it became a lot smoother - before, I could hear all the engine components making a racket, as if they are all trying to fight each other. Now, everything sounds so much better and all seem to be working in concert with each other.

The hardest part - keeping it below 3k revs! I can just sense that that the engine will go ballistic past 4k, by the way it spools ups to 3k. At the moment, it is difficult to discern the performance difference to my 3.6, I have to admit, apart from more torque - but I haven't really let rip, and I can't for another 900 miles. The revs still rise very quickly, so I can't imagine what it'll be like when it's loosened up! I thought it may be a more slower revving, slightly more lazy engine, but it isn't.

No brown trouser moments – but I’m not sure if that was my ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ style or the Quaife diff. The new AP twin plate clutch is fine - marginally heavier than the original, but not by much, and still easier to press than the clutch on our Cooper S!

I think my dad really enjoyed the trip, he couldn’t believe the amount of people smiling and putting their thumbs up as we drove past! (Although he did say the Fiesta hire car was more comfortable and less noisy..lol)

Apparently, my original cats are in perfect condition, so the new OEM Tuscan S cats were not put on, so I may save them or sell them…

The Tam needs a good wash, now....

ETA - Part of the reason for having this upgrade is that now, I know the history of this car and all of its major mechanical componants - I no longer have to worry or have that nagging doubt harboured at the back of my mind that the car may have been abused in the past - it just doesn't matter now. I know that I will not abuse it (miss/skimp on parts/servicing) and it will be looked after - almost like an old new car! hehe

Good news

I binned the service history for my car, it really gets meaningless after a major rebuild (plus a few mods)

I've had a very extensive rebuild, engine, chassis , brakes, diff ect.
I managed to find a new service book and I've started a fresh, as said after so much work the previous history really is irrelevant.

Chris

Sounds like your a happy man smile as I said it is like chalk and cheese soo much more refined if you like and as you say not as noisy and exactly what you say about the nagging in the back of your mind, I am like you no need to worry as I know exactly what has been done to the car so hopefully I will enjoy MOSTLY trouble free motoring for years to come and hopefully so will you, you can now join the watching the odometer club watching the 1000 miles clock up wink be careful though when it is run in when you hit the loud pedal hard for the first time or you will be facing the wrong way, I have had to learn to ease the pedal as I had a few brown trouser moments, good luck and enjoy yes

Cheers for the entertaining read. Have a good time with your tam! And keep it below 3k! ;-)
