OK, after wanting this since buying my Tam, I have finally booked my car in for the upgrade.

After seeing the TVR Power link on Facebook, about the group buy, and the potential to save almost £1k on normal price, I made sure I grovelled and squirmed enough for my wife to agree - and she did (albeit slightly begrudgingly..)! hehe

This is the deal:
http://www.powersperformance.co.uk/news/slug/power...

"POWERS PERFORMANCE 2015 GROUP BUY
4.3 SPEED SIX REBUILD

INCLUDES:
DRIVE IN DRIVE OUT 4.3 ENGINE UPGRADE (NORMALLY £8398)
UPGRADE STARTER MOTOR (NORMALLY £270)
UPGRADE INJECTORS (NORMALLY £684)
£8400 INC VAT"

I will also b having new cats, alloy rad, silicon and SS hoses, possible engine mounts, alternator and belt, clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder, and new speed transducer (as mine doesn't work at all now - been stuck on around 30k for a while...)

I have no doubt I shall love it for when the sun finally arrives. driving

Yep. To be honest I don't think that's unreasonable - it's not like there's a big dealer network with centralised quality control. But I appreciate your frustration. Maybe one for the devolved parliament to sort out?

Ask Dom how much to upgrade to a 4.5. After having both , it would be well worth doing for the extra tourqe, but if not the 4.3 is still a great improvement over the standard 3.6 or 4.0. Might see your car in power when having work done.

I can just stretch to the 4.3, and the 4.3 is the one I have always had in mind. Because I have never really found the standard 3.6 wanting, I am sure the 4.3 will be perfect for me.
I already had the throttle bodies done, and I am hoping the brand new cats and cooling system will alow the engine to be as good as it can be. (I have read some horror stories regarding old cats strangling performance..)

I totally get it if servicing at back street garage who dont know anything about tvrs, but there are quite a few trusted and well know tvr garages scattered across the country that can service competently... wonder why things changed.

Because the specialist garage in question knows they are guaranteed the £8690 they charge for 100k miles of servicing (plus the charge for any additional 'problems' the owner may need addressing) which will more than cover their costs if the engine develops a fault while in warranty.

For me, even the 60 mile trek makes sense. I would assume that Power will look after the engine and service it properly, due to the warranty, whereas another more local garage may be tempted to cut corners, but charge the same. I have never had any negative experiences with Power and am more than happy to have my Tam serviced there.

For smaller jobs, for example when I decide to break bits, like the handbrake, I always have David Gerald in Redditch - which is 50 miles away...

I am quite excited, have to admit. I have wanted this upgrade ever since I bought my tam..

When I spoke with Dom some months ago re servicing up here at Dreadnought (Claire), that didnt seem to pose any issue at all. I hope its not written in stone and tlhat when my time comes there can be an exception. If not then more options on the table (if any of them allow that, minus the tainted one of course...).
The issue is the ~£200 for the roundtrip petrol to get to the 'approved' service as well as the huge inconvenience of it.

Anyway forgot to say, Congrats! smile

Sixty miles is not too far to travel. Where I live it would be 400+ mile round trip and a day off work. If I had to leave the car there and pick it up another day that would be a huge cost for the sake of an oil and filter change!
If power would agree for a recognised local (ie Dan Taylor for me at 40m away) to at least do the basic 6k service that would be a great benefit. Having built the engine and having their name on it, I could understand if they insisted on carrying out the 12k where the cam cover has to be removed.

Have a chat with Dan and the people doing the work. When I was looking at a car from a dealer who gives a good warranty if they did the servicing they were happy to work something out with Dan.

Well done Chris I knew you would give in, you will be more than happy with the 4.3 smile

As far as the warranty goes your lucky you only live a few miles away and can get it serviced there with out too much trouble so you can have the 100,000 miles warranty which is as many years as it takes to reach 100,000 miles

Or 5 years unlimited mileage warranty if serviced at other TVR garages such as Andy said Dan Taylor which is not far from him or me

So you have the choice if you want to have it serviced at Doms its 100,000 or at say Dan Taylors 5 year unlimited mileage

Andy also what the terms and condition of the warranty is its not yearly service its every 6000 miles so if you only do 3000 miles a year you don't have to get it serviced till it reaches 6000 miles

Hope that clears up the warranty side of things, I have had my Griff engine rebuilt there and picked her up last Saturday got a train from Sittingbourne to Coventry cost me £17.50

The itch wouldn't go away, and when that link for the group buy offer was posted, I had little choice but to scratch it. hehe

Can't really afford it right now, so have gone down the route of getting a small loan to cover some of it. At £8.4K including the starter, injectors and VAT, which means a total on around £9k altogether for Dom fitting all the parts I have already bought (including a new speed transducer supplied by Power), it was too much of a good offer to pass up. I was always anticipating around £12k..

I think that after this, I will finally have the car how I want it - Perhaps later I may get the larger brakes and perhaps a CR box, but for now, I am happy!

Have you run it in yet Gary? Haha
With all these conversions being done I feel a 4, 4.3, 4.5, FFF shootout coming on.... May just convince me to spend some hard earned!

Chris, is the post-running in mapping an additional cost or is that included in the figure quoted?

I'm so tempted to do this, but my 3.6 has just been given a clean bill of health and dyno'd 363bhp, I was sort of hoping for "issues" to crop up that warranted a new engine but no such luck (as yet).

I don't do Facebook.......makes me wonder what other TVR related deals I miss out on.

I am not 100% sure, but I don't think the 4.3 has the post-running in mapping as standard - that is for the 4.5 and 5 litre - I think.

You have a very healthy output there!

I think, and I have thought long and hard over this, the 4.3 will be perfect for my Tamora, as I enjoy it most on the twisties. Top speed isn't so important, especially for the open top Tam. I am sure there would be massive problems with the roof flying off (if no extra securing clips haven't been added) past certain speeds. So the peace of mind and better drivabilty/reliability of the 4.3 at (slightly) lower speeds is important to me, especially when I want to drive the Tam to Italy later this year.

You can actually sign up to the TVR Power newsfeed from their site. smile

Tried, failed. Closest we have done was 3x Sagaris on the track at the Supercar event event a few years ago. The original Sag was miles behind, the 4.5 had far more low down, but at the top the FFF was closing it at a very large rate of knots.

OP, enjoy! That's a nice little deal Doms put together.

The 4.3 shouldn't require any post build mapping, thats more the 4.5 IIRC.
My 3.6 gave a similar level of power to yours and was no slouch so I wouldn't worry too much smile I see the 4.3 as a big improvement, especially in low down torque and well worth the 3-4 grand over a standard rebuild should you be having to spend the money. However, is it worth the 9k without actually needing a rebuild? IMHO it isn't, wait till you need to have it done unless you have moey to spare.

As for the warranty, Dom has a number of trusted Indies that he will let service the engines and for that you get a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty, if he services it it becomes time unlimited.
End of my 5 years I'll likely take it along to Dom for an inspection and buy an additional warranty from him.

Chris - enjoy it - the torque is addictive.

Chris, now signed up to Powers newsletter, can't wait for that interest free engine deal to come through!

Tony, yes you're right, I'll follow my head and continue to enjoy the engine as it is.
