CR box and diff ratios
Discussion
I have - I went from normal to C/R, and diff was 3.4 to 3.7.
The difference.... from what I remembered, it just 'went' a lot quicker. I worked well with the engine as it loves to rev. Downside - motorway cruising is less efficient... This was a few years ago, so thinking back the previous setup was good for normal driving, this is good for fast driving.
Str8-Six did the work.

Normal driving - in a TVR? Hah! I'm trying to avoid that; keep the miles down, and the experience special. So far I've managed to drop from 17k/year to 10k.The difference.... from what I remembered, it just 'went' a lot quicker. I worked well with the engine as it loves to rev. Don, was this with the Sag or Tam?The difference.... from what I remembered, it just 'went' a lot quicker. I worked well with the engine as it loves to rev. Always had the 3;73 diff on the Sag and went to a CR gearbox a couple of years ago, much better INHO, all depends how you drive of course, but 1st is now around 45mph, 2nd is 80mph, so good for a quick blast away from the lights but 2nd 3rd and 4th all a bit closer so spirited driving, or trackday, changing down a gear keeps it up in the revband nicely.
downside you get used to never getting out of second gear around down or in 40 limits, and a bit more oomph required when pulling away.

I understand the logic but driving a TVR is always special. I have driven literally hundreds of thousands of TVR miles and it's still always special. And, of course as custodians of such machines we have a duty to brighten the day of other drivers with a glimpse of our cars on the road. TVRMs said:

Was that from someone who has tried all the variations?
Well known Tvr specialist, also said can damage engine if you are very rev happy. So it's gearbox AND diff combination that dictates the 'quickest', yeah? Given like for like rubber, power, torque....

Easy tiger, assumption based on a shortage of information will lead to misinformation.
Standard 3.6 and 4.0 are over geared with a 3.46 diff so could have higher top speed with 3.9.
The combinations and their ability to work well or less well very much depends on engine power and torque characteristics, so our well known dealer, unless he qualified his statement, is talking out of his backside.

Have been informed that the standard box 3.9 diff is the quickest, what are owners thoughts?
So quicker acceleration than the 3.4, but lower top speed?Standard 3.6 and 4.0 are over geared with a 3.46 diff so could have higher top speed with 3.9.

Ah, can't use the 'available' gearing of the 3.46? T40ORA said:

So hence the concept of a standard box, or CR, whilst running 404bhp and about 350'ish ftlb torque with a 3.7?
