Does anyone know if the clutch bulkhead to bellhousing pipe can be refitted whilst the engine and gearbox are in the car? I can get the pipe fitting on to the bellhousing but I can't get a spanner in there to tighten it up?

I asked this over on the Tuscan forum but no-one seems to know.

Yes it can, yes I've done it and yes it is F'in awkward.

You will need a 9/16 ring spanner with deep offset and then a grinder to slot it to fit it over the pipe to fit the gearbox end.

None of my brake line spanners or crows foot spanners would fit in there so a certain ring spanner was volunteered by the rest of the tool box for de-ringing. The bulk head fittings are aluminium and nasty as they corrode up and then as you try to undo the nipple it will try to shear off so careful here. Suggest WD40 for a vey good soak, but if you do shear this off you are in the foot well and taking the whole block out, it has 4 nuts and studs holding it in, one in each corner and is masked by fibreglass and mastic. You will then find that the brake lines will also shear off so the now useless little aluminium block can be thrown at next doors cat. I made a new one from steel, not the cat the block, as there were not any available. Racetech now have them but there are three different types I know of on the T cars.

So now you have no brakes, knuckles bleeding, fibreglass in your fingers, a mourning neighbour and a wrecked ring spanner but if you reverse the whole process you will get a clutch that works and a kitten that sits on your TVR.

Thanks John.

I couldn't find an old 9/16 ring spanner but did manage to find a short open ended 9/16 spanner that I bent in a vice to about 70 or 80 degree which did the job. I had to be careful not to go to far as it looked like the spanner might fracture. It wasn't as bad as I feared in the end so the neighbours cat isn't limping!

Is there a procedure for setting up the clutch pedal travel? I've replaced the clutch, slave cylinder and had the pedal box out and was wondering if you need to limit the travel to stop the slave cylinder blowing it seals or anything?

Sorry for late reply. I set it up so it just passes the slip point when fully depressed then adjust the stud that stops the travel on back of the pedal. You will over travel the fingers if you over stroke so care with this. You will know when it is right as changing gear is sweet, teeth will collect in the bottom of the box if you don't have enough travel and fingers will collect in the bell housing if you have too much. Simples!

Glad you got sorted and sorry again for so long getting back, been to Le Mans and working like a dog.

Next doors rather fat cat is perched on the daily drive right now so going to walk the dog..... tee hee.
