Be interested to see how you get on with that heat shield. I managed to improve mine by resealing but the rubber gaiter will no doubt deterior and/or work loose again!
Will let you know, should arrive tomorrow. I knew it was knackered the last time I Sikaflexed it into position. I haven't looked yet, but I have little doubt the guys who took out and re-installed my gearbox did not secure it, or left it off completely, as my centre tunnel has never been so hot!

If what I have ordered fits, at least I shouldn't have to remove it again for a very long time once in place, plus it should do a better job of shielding the transmission heat.

Is the base rubber or plastic? If it is flexible or trim able you should be able to get it to work in some form. G Varley used an old soldering mat to make one. I have got one floating around so I might give it a go myself!

I don't know, I am hoping whatever it is, it's flexible!

OK, that new gaiter wasn't really worth the £50 it cost me, but have used it anyway.

Here is the original:

And this is the new one:

I had to cut some of the bottom off as it was massive. I had to Sikaflex it in place, hopefully, it won't have to come off again.

I think a lot of the problem with the heat coming up from the gearbox was the fact that both the upper leather gaiter and the lower rubber boot were not stuck back down after removing/refitting my gearbox. No heat from the gear lever at all now.

If there's one thing I've learned since buying this Tamora, it's that no matter how much you pay the specialists to work on the car, you always have something to repair/fix when you get it back!

Hey Chris, can't believe the state of the old rubber gaitor! Must have been refitted lots of times! In the end did you place the new gaiter over the original one and seal it to that or totally remove the old one?

Yes, it took ages to remove all of the excess Sikaflex from around the gaiter area! I removed the old one altogether and replaced it with the new one, but had little choice but to Sikalfex it in place again (I did try double sided sticky neoprene rubber first, as that would have been neater, but it just wasn't sticking), to ensure a perfect seal around the gear lever hole in the tunnel.

I guess anything that is sticky back will loose adhesion once it starts getting hot, sealant the only good solution there. Does it just velcro round at the top around the gearstick or have you cable tied it or something?

No cable ties, there's a small slit in the top of the new gaiter, I just pushed it over the top of the gearstick and stuck the 'skirt' to the tunnel.
