17 inch SP12 on a Tamora
Discussion
Having had my Tamora for a couple of months and managing to flat spot one of the Spiders in the first week, I have my eye on alternative wheels.
The SP12's are my wheel of choice but I would like to run a less low profile tyre as the existing ones just seen a little ridiculous. So, does anyone run 17 inch SP12's and if so:
What tyre sizes do you run?
Do you feel that they fill the arches OK?
Do they give a better ride over poor surfaces?
I'm thinking of going with a dark color so that they give the impression of filling the arches better than they perhaps do.
Any comments or advice?
Thanks,
Dan

Can you get SP12s in anything other than 18"?
Be careful with tyre sizes on a Tam - mine came to me on 18" spiders but with Tuscan tyre sizes and they rubbed the arches. It's been discussed a few times so maybe search for the threads?
I'm running 18" SP12's with 35 profile (225's Toyo T1 sports) and the ride is fine.
What dampers you running?

I thought I'd seen SP12's available as 17 inch but may be going mad, will check. Not keen on increasing the profile on the 18's unless there no chance of arch rubbing.
Currently on Gaz shocks but will probably refresh with Protech or similar in the winter. Ride isn't terrible by any means, more concerned with giving the wheels a bit more protection.

These are effectively the SP12's - directly from Rimstock: http://www.team-dynamics.com/wheeldetail.php?ProRa... . Also available in 17"

as others have said, 18 with 240front and 235 rear are a common profile. thats what i useThe SP12's are my wheel of choice but I would like to run a less low profile tyre as the existing ones just seen a little ridiculous. So, does anyone run 17 inch SP12's and if so:

Yes, that's what I have. I wish I had chosen the 240 rears, though, as I had my suspension raised slightly, rather than slammed further to the ground.
sorry wrong size quotedi use 235/40/18 fronts and 265/35/18 rears. that profile is about right for mine, and I wouldn't say it was harsh.

Hi all,
just in case someone is still interested in this subject.
I just changed from 18'' to 17'' SP 12 wheels.
Tyres are F 225/45-17, R 245/45-17; Rims are F 8x17 ET 40, R 9x17 ET 35
I cannot say anything yet about the roadfeeling but I could keep you posted if you like to be.
Best
Tom
Hi Tom, Wheels look great, but can I ask a slightly different question?just in case someone is still interested in this subject.

Hi Tom,
I don't suppose you still have the 18 inch SP12's?
Just sold two sets of BMW alloys that had been clogging up my garage for the best part of three years, it looks rather bare now, think it needs a set of Spiders stacked in there before the space gets filled with a chest freezer.
Cheers,
Dan

Ta. I'm not looking to modify arches - at least at the moment.
Toyo 245/40/18, no rubbing chris watton said:
I have 255/35/18 on my rears and is absolutely fine. Wish I had gone for 255/40 as there's still plenty of room (I did have my suspension level increased though, to stop grounding...)
Thanks guys. Two viable options for the next couple of months. PS Are you running Spiders Chris, or a wider wheel on the back?
