Thanks guys. Two viable options for the next couple of months.

PS Are you running Spiders Chris, or a wider wheel on the back?
Standard Spiders, nothing special at all. Tires fit a treat and have had no problems.

Useful to know. How much did you raise the suspension?

Not by much, perhaps 10/15mm, but it makes all the difference when it comes to speed bumps, and handling isn't compromised at all. (I had 40 profile on the fronts)

I've been intending to get it raised, as I use her a lot and the front has taken a real bashing from the bloody humps and generally crap roads. Timing might be good to get it all sorted at once.

Hi Tom,

I don't suppose you still have the 18 inch SP12's?

Cheers,

Dan
Hi Dan,

the wheels are still with me.
I'm sure you will agree: it might be best to keep them at least as long as it will take to judge the new ones.
The 18''s have quite a pretty colour. They are silver but not as shiny as the new ones.
If you are interested, give me a couple of weeks.
The rims are F 8x18 ET 36, R 9x18 ET 33.
Tyres are still mounted: Toyo R1R F 225/40-18 (o.k. but old), R 255/35-18 (down & old) - really great Tyres when warmed up. Sadly they are illegal on the tamora in Germany.

Cheers
Tom

Hi all,

just my experience: I still have to fix that hole in the inner arch back right being grinded by the 255/35 tyre and one of the former owners of the car. Similar on the left side, but not quite as bad.

I thought it over and over but didn't feel up for a body job. I didn't like the look as in my eyes the 18 inch rims don't match this tiny car. The b-roads over here often are awful. So I thought some Tyres with a higher sidewall could be of a benefit as some narrower tyres surely would be (no body job). I strongly look forward to taking her really out for the fist time this year.

Cheers
Tom

I think that part of the problem (or was), is that at some point during the car's life,, some owners wanted them to look 'meaner' by either lowering the suspension or putting even larger wheels on without even a though to adjusting the suspension to compensate. Very few, it seems, ever thought of slightly increasing the ride height to reduce the risk of tyres rubbing on the arches.

Surely you are right.
In my case we have had adjustable Nitron's fitted. After I had purchased the car I raised the front by screwing the dampers up 1 cm. Now the chassis was parallel to the floor and front wheel rubbing was gone. Then I softened all the dampers by a few klicks which was necessary for a more smooth but still firm ride. I didn't touch the ride height on the rear as there already was a lot of space between the tyres and the arches. After having done so on some bumpy roads the rear wheels still rubbed the inner arches from time to time. Because of this and because of the look I decided to go down that 17'' road with different offsets an narrower rear wheels.

Best
Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm interested in the wheels, not so much the tyres... although I'll take them if it helps you. Message me if/when you're ready to sell.

Thanks,

Dan

Fine, Dan.

I do not really know yet if I will be going to let them go. There is a little space left to store them and I've got a good fridge in my kitchen on top. Maybe I will keep them for occasional track days...

So I will take a few pictures of the wheels and send them shortly.

Cheers
Tom

New tyres imminent. Pursyluv, are these on the front? Handling good?

Chris, are you definite that the 255/35s still have clearance? If so, I might order the 45s....

Absolutely - As I mentioned, I wish I ordered a thicker tyre wall, too:

Nitrons were raised slightly, though.

Cheers Chris. I'll raise the height on the ASTs too.
