New 'performance' CF airbox from ACT?

what did you lube them with....cant be that bad surely.....man up!
Washing up liquid Yes, they really were that bad. So much so that I am sure that those of us with this particular set up will be charged extra come service time, due to the time it takes to take them off/put them back on. If they change the hoses to push fit, I will buy them in a shot and change them.
I had a long drive in the Tam with the new air box in place a couple of days ago. I can confirm that there is zero difference (or at least inperceptable) in performance between that and the standard box. Perhaps it may be a different story after it's been remapped by Dom. If not, then it's a hell of a lot of money for a bit of engine bay bling (and sore knuckles..)
I experienced no lean running at all, although I didn't go above 6k revs. The car itself is an absolute joy to drive, though.

When are you booked in with Dom/Jason??

Am hoping to get the car remapped and RR'd in the new year. Am hoping the exhaust and air box will give the engine the best chance possible when tuning it.
I would have liked a before and after RR session, with standard versus CF air box. But it's a pain to remove and fix back in place, so I guess I won't really know just how good the new air box is.
I'd say it's about 1-2kg lighter than the standard.

Plus a lighter wallet!
IMO the performance airbox only works when there is better headwork than normal, better airflow out, and a remap.
True! I think the best 'bang for buck' bolt on upgrade was CliveF's conical decats. I could tell the difference straight away.IMO the performance airbox only works when there is better headwork than normal, better airflow out, and a remap.
I have the airflow out sorted, I think, with the decats and full large bore exhaust. Car is now ripe for a remap (Doms)

I ditto Geoff Ashcrofts comment on your honesty...I've just placed an order for a concept design system after seeing the quality of the ACT one...then it'll be at Doms for the 4.3 proper remap etc in '16

To be fair, I am sure it does state on the website that a remap will be needed. This seems to be the case for other performance boxes, too. I just didn't want people to think that there are 'massive gainz' by simply fitting it and nothing else.
This is really the only car I drive, and know it well. So any changes in performance, however slight, are noticed on my favourite roads. Am looking forward to its much needed remap.

It's like anything Chris it's all about fine tuning to get the balance and feel and to be honest I love a bit of underbonnet bling . My Westy SEiGHT V8 looks light a tarts palace under the bonnet..To be fair, I am sure it does state on the website that a remap will be needed. I do like the looks of the new air box, but that huge mould line reminds me of a 1:12 scale car model air box, where the plastic injections tool meets!
My standard airbox is now FUBAR (cracks and broken bits), so the procrastination over which replacement to get needs to come to an end!
Am I right in saying that the options are;
1. Find a reasonable condition standard one,
2. ACT version like Chris
3. Clive Ford's SS one,
4. Brendan's new CF one?
Anything I've missed?
My current thinking is that the ACT one is a bit underwhelming in terms of quality and performance gains (at least looking at Chris' comments).
The SS version looks pretty, appears to give a suggested 15bhp, is in production - but is likely a but heavier and may not match my engine bay.
Brendan's one? To plagiarise a well known Spanish waiter - "I know nothing"!
Any thoughts on this from you guys? Buzzbillsberry, do you have a link to the one that you've ordered, or contact details for Brendan?
TIA
