Pads will play more of a part than diameters, I went down from 343mm to our 330mm, (you have to practice what you sell) I couldn't tell any difference, apart from the two piece disc is more prone to vibration.

Friction, torque and some force over area, basic physics. Best of both is where you would want to be surely?

Trust me, pads can make a bad system good, and bad pads make a good system rubbish.
I spend a lot of time in the historic paddock.

Fit decent pads and at our level of big vented discs, and big four pot calipers, it's vanity...

And why not! smile
