The short story is that the ECU has been causing problems again (this time throwing up incorrect crank sensor faults).

This is about the 3rd time in two years that the ECU has been a pain. so the question is:

should I send the ECU away again? (about £2-300 each time)

or should I buy a new / upgraded ECU?

and if I buy a new ECU, which one should I go for? (bare in mind that I don't want to spend over £2000 for the racing ECUs)

All thoughts welcome, preferably related.

Have you replaced the crank sensor? (I think they're almost a service item and should be changed every 24000 miles anyway, rather than just cleaned each service?) £2-300 for the ECU repair is excessive, what do they say they repair?

Have tried 3 crank sensors, the fault still re-appears. have checked connections and wiring aswell.

The ECU repair depends on what needs to be done, but the last couple of times it has been around that mark.

Who is doing the repairs? Paul Smith is the TVR electronics wizard and has repaired a few things for me over the years and always found his prices to be reasonable.

I occasionally get a crank sensor fault when I fire her up connected to the diagnostics, if I clear it and re-start the diagnostics it shows no fault. Unless its causing poor running I would ignore it, never bothered me & mine still hasn't gone bang in the last 7 years

I cannot recommend the Syvecs ECU highly enough. Awesome bit of kit, and the knock sensors give a lot of extra peace of mind (my original engine lunched itself due to detonation on #6 cylinder, which could not happen now due to Syvecs looking after it).

A lot of money, mind. But I spent it as part of a huge upgrade package that included Racing Green's FFF2 head.
