A half turn of the earth bolt in the passenger footwell fixed the random dash for me.

Well just to keep the thread updated, it isn't the passenger footwell earth, that seems fine with any amount of turns!

Will get the alternator checked this weekend with any luck,Car stood all weekend and has driven too and from work for a week without starting issues, so I suspect it's doing something.

I am sure you know but.... You have to grip that bolt in the footwell on both sides to tighten it (behind the battery so you need 2 people) try a new fuse by the alternator too, they fracture internally sometimes before they pack up completely.

Hi Tony
I went through a very similar set of faults with my Tamora. I hope that your car is not suffering from the same issues mine was.

The faults mine was displaying were as follows....
- Poor hot starting, this got to the point where I had to wait for it to cool down at petrol stations which was really tiresome!
- Random readings on the dashboard electronic readouts. Low OP, High OT and WT readings.
- Poor / erratic idling.

I did the following work to fix it all....
- Replaced all of the high current cabling - I found all of my cabling had been cooked by the heat in the engine bay over time. This was all re-routed via the passenger compartment over the dashboard to prevent the same problem happening again. The fusing arrangement was changed with this work and the feeders to the service supplies for fuse box and PS pump replaced.
- Remade all ground bonds for the car.
- Replaced the mulit-pin cabling to the dashboard from the ECU. This had been damaged by poor refitting.
- Re-secured all the ECUs to the car as most of them were floating about loose.
- Replaced the coil pack
- Replaced the HT leads
- Reconditioned the alternator - the diode pack and the brushes were found to be faulty and worn respectively.
- Removed and rebuilt the engine loom that carries all of the sensor signals back to the ECU. When I pulled this apart I found a lot of water had got into the loom and corroded parts of it quite badly. The grounds are commoned inside the wrapping of the loom and several had fractured which I suspect was the primary cause of the sensor oddities.
- Replaced all temp sensors
- Replaced TP sensors

While I was at it and had the car in bits I also did a fair amount of tidying up work, fitted speakers to the door pods, fitted larger speakers to the rear, fitted a DAB antenna and a new radio. I also replaced the LCD panel in the dash pod with one from Lee who is on PH.

The only electrics project I have to do at the moment is to make Lee's screen dimmer when my headlights are on as it is too bright in the dark!

If I can be of any help with diagnosis or fixing any of your car's problems then don't hesitate to contact me. I am no pro with these cars but I have now seen, been frustrated by, sworn at and eventually fixed most electrical gremlins that seem to afflict these cars!

Str8 Six replaced the wiring harness between the engine bay and ECU on my T350 a few years ago to solve some minor running issues. They seem prone to water ingress.

Kinda-snap!! Frayed and shorting loom above steering column taking out starter motor solenoid feed, plus a number of verdigris connectors and two frayed wires at the back of the block which fed two injectors. All sorted by TVR Power with ECU upgrade - luckily I was only on my 4th starter motor, which put a smile on Dom's face, if not his bank balance, on warranty claims!!! Owners with early models keep your fingers crossed!!!

Well the wiring loom in the footwell has been replaced once already and is fairly new, but could still be it I suppose.

The earth both does seem to tighten /loosen without holding the battery side, but I can give it another go with the wheel off.

Readouts are fine when I start and rev the car, but turning on the heater sends them mental, or just driving along as well. I'm not sure if that's indicative of anything?Maybe it is the load the heater draws?

Drives fine however, no problems with running / starting. Battery seems to hold a charge OK

Try unplugging the heater amp. Look up under the dash on the passenger side its normally fixed to the dash there

I will give it a go. Driving in and home today the readouts are reasonably sane ans stable, without the heater on.

Well, just to close the thread...

The winners are LeeT350C , Serg and Shep for their suggestion it was a bad earth. Wheel off, battery off, earth bolt clearly loose, tightened in,dash back to normal. smile

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond- I'm glaad it wasn't anything more serious! Virtual pints all round and real ones should we ever meet!
