What is actually wrong with your ecu? Is it the original mbe? They can be repaired, and there's threads where folk have repaired them.
As for after market I prefer the syvecs set up and have fitted one. It's hugely flexible and offers immense value for money, in terms of functionality, and the mapping software is available to all without any licensing.
You probably need to consider cost to benefit as the standard ecu for trundling around on the road is adequate.

thanks for replies the problem is when the car has not been used for 3/4 weeks on start up it just cuts out and backfires, start again and i have to keep pumping the accelerate if i
take my foot off it cuts out and backfires again this happens six or more times then it starts to run ok,on the road it's fine, can anyone tell me the costs of replacement or approx cost to repair and who does the repairs

Sounds more like a battery issuetake my foot off it cuts out and backfires again this happens six or more times then it starts to run ok,on the road it's fine, can anyone tell me the costs of replacement or approx cost to repair and who does the repairs
It could be the Dallas DS1230 Memory Chip inside the ECU. It holds the adaptive data / throttle data and if this is lost, the engine has trouble to start and runs poorly in the beginning.
These chips are internal battery powered and have a lifetime of around 10 years. I would change this chip, should cost around 20 GBP, and try again.
