Sooo, I'm considering a 911 as an every day car for me & mrs B. Obviously keeping my (Far superior) Tamora.
Has anyone else done this? what to look out for / avoid? I have a budget of 25k ish. and the 997 falls into this (I don't really like the look of the 996 and can no longer run to a 993(My 1st choice)
thanks in advance, I didn't want to bounce straight into the 911 forum without first consulting like minded individuals

I have a 911 996 as a daily. Chosen because they are very reliable, cheap to run and can handle 15-20k miles a year with ease. 911's are simply brilliant, brilliant cars. And an early 996 with the 3.4 engine is full of potential.
Avoid 997's in Gen 1 form. My bother just had his engine rebuilt on his. Thank you Hartech!
On the whole though, TVRs are more unreliable and I've had 3. Let's not kid ourselves.
I am demented for them but equally alive to their foibles. My Tuscan engine went bang. Costs a lot more than a 997 engine. I could catalogue the myriad problems over the years, clutches, starter motors, batteries, dodgy electrics, bits falling off, breakdowns etc but frankly I don't care. TVR's are epic.
What car to get? 997 C2S manual with PSE and a Hartech rebuild.

Get a 997.1 Carrera s, get it down to the Porsche garage get it checked out then put a Porsche warranty on it, they now warranty the car up to 15 years old, like TVRs not all the engines go pop, average is 6 units out of every 789 units sold worldwide.......
P.S, Triptronic are a lot more likely to go POP than a manual........Just google it.

I scratched the itch and chose a 997 GTS a couple of years ago to go with my Chimaera 500. Part of my plan for cost free motoring paid for by appreciation! The Porsche is costing me a LOT more to run (insurance, tax, servicing, warranty, tracker). Totally contrasting drives, despite similar performance up to way above legal limits; but touring trips in the 911 to the Continent and Scotland very comfortable and quick. But generally if it's not raining I use the TVR! The biggest issue with Porsche is you get hooked - hence the recent addition - a 911 Carrera 3.2 Sport!

thanks for the responses; certainly food for thought. I had heard some anecdotal stories but i thoughtthat was the 996 (!)
when did the 997 mk 2 start-what year?
I'm only considering a manual- its a control thing I think!
