I'm posting an email and the garages response

Your thoughts please
Start from the bottom

Think the car is running correctly now as before we did the mod to the earths on the lambda earths they where reading low on the dash as soon as we unplugged the lambda sensors the readings went up on the dash to the correct values. The first fan should come on at 91 roughly and the second at 95, before the dash has always read low on yours so that is what you got used to.
Hope this makes sense

Hi

Since I collected the car from you a few weeks back after its service I noticed that the water temp was quite a bit higher than it was prior to the service

I went out today for a long drive and even on the motorway it was high and when I was driving in slower traffic (not at a standstill) the fans where kicking in

I've never had the fans come on before unless I had been at a standstill for quite some time

Anything I can try before I bring it back to you ?

Same issue with mine had the lambda sensor mod and now the dash temp is 10deg hotter than actual from ECU. Had mine checked and all is normal I am being told. Seems the earth issue with the lambda was masking an earth problem else where.

Forgive me but I still can't get my head around what's going on
Was I getting a false reading before the earth mod was done and the fans weren't coming on when they should have but we're coming in at a higher temp due to the false reading ?

It just seems a little strange the the fans are coming on even when the car is moving (at a low speed)
as I've never had this happen before it feels like something's not right

Same with mine. If you plug it in the diagnostics & watch the actual temp that the fans start (read from the ECU sensor) it should be correct. Mine start at 89/95 degrees as I would expect but the dash temp readout which is off a separate sensor says 95/102. You are still getting an inaccurate display reading but the ECU temp controller is still doing its job.

Just to reassure you a little (coz i was bricking it..) I took mine for an ECU remap and the re-earth, before it went in my car used to take an age for the water temp to get up let alone the oil, it would take around 30 mins of driving before the water was at 70.

After the remap i noticed it was getting to temp much quicker, around 15 mins. Which was a good thing as i didnt have the nurse the car so much. But then i noticed it was getting up to 100 in traffic so then i was worried, i took the car to str8 six and then checked it over and replaced both of the temp sensors as a precaution, however the dash temp was reading 10c hotter than the ECU even with the new sensors, the only conclusion was that the lambda had an earth issue and now thats sorted it seems to have moved the problem elsewhere.

The only way to fix the dash issue is to sort out the earth issue on the car but that could be a bit of a job, so i decided that just deducting 10 from the dash display wasnt so bad..

I was out in the car at the weekend in 25c heat and it would often get into the 90's (100-10) the fan would kick in and bring it down and then when the car was on the open road it was back down around 70-80 mark.

There is a mobile app that you can plug into the ECU and display the correct readings on a smart phone which would probably be cheaper than fixing the earth issue..

As long as the fans bring the temp down, and both cut in and out as required, and you check the water level(cold) frequently, just crack on. We have all been there biggrin
