Hi,

Has anyone fitted a dashcam in a Sag ? If so, which model, where is it fitted and how noticeable is it from the outside of the car ?
Had a look at a few but it's really obvious they're fitted even when just glancing at the car.

Thanks
Paul

Hey mate! Suggest looking at one of those mirror units or clip on units. Plenty on Amazon.

Alex - what have you done about cable routing in yours?

Not fitted one to mine yet. I'm looking at an Android Smart mirror replacement instead.

I did fit a Gentex powered mirror though a couple of years ago, so I'll be using the same cabling as that unit.

I don't know if I have any pics of the wiring done for that one, just the final result.

Hi Alex,
I've been looking at the mirror/clip on units, just so many to choose from so thought someone might've done it already and know what to avoid.

Will do some more research and experimenting with cams I've borrowed from friends.

Routing the cable doesn't look too difficult as it can be hidden behind the trim without too much trouble.

Cheers
Paul

I've got a couple of these in my daily's (not in my TVR though) and with some electricians tape and removing the chrome bezel they blend in well.

I have a dashcam in my daily driver car, which spends most of its time in the city, crawling around well under the speed limit, dodging red-light-running cyclists, blind bus drivers and jealous pram-pushers... Its permanently wired in and records everything... thats the point of it obviously.

I'd think long and hard about fitting one to my TVR (or any occasional 'fun' car for that matter).

Ultimately, it all boils down to what your reasoning for having it is. If you're looking to film the occasional spirited hoon or track day in order to replay the footage at home later, consider a GoPro and a suction cup mount... better quality, better sound, more versatile (you can take it off and film exterior shots etc when you want) and easily removable.

If, however, you want to hard wire a dash cam to film everything (all the time, for evidential reasons), just keep in mind that there are situations where it might become your worst enemy, e.g:

1) Someone might break in to steal it.
2) It will incriminate you when you get pulled over for running a red light you "swear was green, officer".
3) It will incriminate you if your brakes lock up on a wet road and your car ploughs straight into the hatchback in front that braked sharply for no apparent reason.

In the last 2 examples, its quite easy to think that you can just a) hide the camera, b) remove the microSD card, c) quickly delete the footage or d) refuse to provide it as evidence... but that can end up with a driving conviction quickly becoming a criminal conviction - traffic officers are now routinely looking out for them (as well as any traces of their installation/removal).

I know everyone, especially on PH, is the best driver in the world so would never run a red light or lock up their brakes... but just providing some food for thought, that is all.

Not really thought too much about the negative points. Never been stopped for 2 or 3 above and hopefully won't be involved in an accident but you never know.
Cams seems to be quite common these days and I know a few people where video from their cams helped determine/prove who was at fault.
Would have to be a cam which could be well hidden or easily removed but will give it more thought.

Thanks for taking my points constructively, I'm not preaching just wanted to highlight a side to them that might not be as obvious.

As mentioned, I have a dash cam myself in my daily driver for this very reason but, after lots of consideration, I decided (on balance) not to fit one in the TVR as I use/drive it quite differently to my daily driver.
